Swept Away or Couples Negril
We are planning a trip to Jamaica for July 2002. We are looking for an all-inclusive that has great water sports (do any include jet skis?)and other activities. But at the same time we don't want to feel like we are at summer camp. I've narrowed it down to Swept Away and Couples Negril, but I can't decide. Any comments, suggestions, or advice is welcomed.

FYI Couples now owns Swept Away so I bet you can visit back and forth.
Swept Away is on the main beach in Negril so you can easily walk the beach to nightlife from there, and going up to the clifs for sunset will be cheaper/faster. The other Couples is on Bloody Bay which is lovely but away from the rest of the hotels and bars and restaurants and stuff.
Swept Away is geared more to active/sporty types, it seems to me - they have a big fitness center, pools, spa, etc.
I'm not sure of the condition of the beach at either one after a hurricane passed by in Nov - I know mid-beach and south is fine but there were sections before Swept Away where we had to walk in the water to pass as the beach was badly eroded in spots. I hear Swept Away's beach is fine but you'd have to do the water thing to walk down the beach, I think.
I don't think anyone includes jetskis. I have seen sunfish and kayaks on SA's beach so I assume they include at least those.

We stayed at Couples Negril 01/00 for our honeymoon and loved it. The beach was nice and many watersports, we enjoyed the hobycat most. There were jet skis but not included with the resort, believe locals were renting them. There are pleny of activities that you probably won't participate in all of them, unless your their for more than a week.
The hospitality was excellent, we've decided to try Couples Ocho Rios this May.

we stayed at couples negril in october. i was disappointed at the inconsistency of the service and food. we inquired about taking a day trip over to Swept Away, but the day passes cost $75 per person. wouldn't you think they would want to promote their sister resorts? i would go to swept away before couples.

I am a travel agent who specializes in Jamaica all inclusive vacations. You have picked my two favorite resorts!! If you are a tennis player, you should go to Swept Away...great program. If you are a pool person, Couples Negril has a gorgeous pool. I agree with the other comments regarding location...sunsets will be better at Swept...not as many restaurants though...Couples might be a bit younger crowd...both are fully all inclusive with scuba but no jet skis...water skiing though. Have fun!
