St. Vincent and Grenadines Question

Does anyone have a favorite or favorites among St. Vincent and the islands of the Grenadines? I will be staying on Bequia and plan on at least a day visit to St. Vincent.

I have read up on Mayreau, Mustique, Canouan, Tobago Cays, Union Island, PSV, Palm Island, etc. and just curious on opinions out there.

The Tobago Cays are a "must," at least if you enjoy snorkelling and/or diving. The islands are uninhabited, and each has a small beach, and perhaps a little hill to climb. The waters are amazing! Try to plan your visit to avoid cruise ship arrivals, as the influx of many visitors tends to eliminate the feeling of solitude.

Also, I would add that the beach at Saltwhistle Bay, Mayreau, is particularly lovely.

I would really love to hear more about visiting these islands. Can anyone share more trip experiences? Are they just incredibly difficult to get to? Nice beaches? Friendly people?

Kath - Here is some information: The islands are not incredibly difficult to get to, but there are no nonstops from the mainland US. You can fly to Barbados from several US cities, then get on a small plane to St. Vincent, Bequia, Mustique. St. Vincemt has connections to a number of islands. Carriacou has a connection to Puerto Rico. So, depending on where you live, the trip involves either two flights (e.g. a major city like NY to Barbados, then a transfer to St. Vincent) or three flights (e.g. Albany to New York.)

The smaller Grenadines (PSV, Palm Island) do not have an airport, so add on a short boat trip to those.

Regardless, the travel takes up much or most of a day, and the cost is a fair amount more than say going to Puerto Rico or Jamaica.

Thank you Howard. Please report back on the trip to Bequia. It has been on my "list" for a while.
