St. Martin: cost of transportation to Grand Case

We're flying to SXM (Princess Juliana airport) and wondering about the cost of transportation options to Grand Case: private taxi, shared taxi, etc. We look forward to this information. Thank you.

Look at link below. The taxi rates are established by zones. The link is from 2014 but I remember paying about $40 in 2015 for the taxi from the airport to Grand Case.

We rented a car for something like 30 euros a day and my daughter's boyfriend rented one for 25 a day whilst being aged 21.

Are you staying at a hotel in Grand Case? In the past, we've had the hotel pick us up at the airport, then picked up a rental car at the hotel.

You absolutely want a car while you are in St. Martin... there is too much to see and do, and you'll want the freedom of coming and going as you please. You can rent a car for easily half (if not far more) than what you'll spend in taxis.

Examples: Happy Bay (French side); Pinel Island (French side, 10 minute ferry once you drive there); Mullet Bay (Dutch side); Waikiki (French side)... also, there are many fantastic restaurants for breakfast and dinner - you will absolutely want a car.

I recommend getting at least a standard... St. Martin is very hilly, and you'll find yourself shifting into low gears (even though it's an automatic) to get up some of them. We usually get a jeep.

PS: Are you set on Grand Case? I would actually consider that the least safe town for tourists Happy to give you other recommendations.

To Sngbrdb: Has something changed in the last year in Grand Case to make it unsafe for tourists? My partner and I have happily and safely stayed there the last two years on vacation and will return for 2 weeks this spring.

To OP: We rent a car so I cannot comment on transportation cost to GC. The island is easy to navigate, it is very reasonable to rent a car and recommended to experience the whole island.

Same question :
I felt very safe in the whole island and in grand-case too. From what I've told by friends who lived in the island for more than 20 years and still stay several months a year, the unsafe part is around Sandy Ground due to presence of dancings and drug dealers.
