St. Lucia - Anse Chastenet

We are considering going to Anse Chastenet for our honeymoon in June. We do not want to do an all inclusive. We have heard that the restaurants at Anse Chastenet are very expensive. Does anyone have any information on how expensive meals are and if there are any alternatives to eating at the resort?

Went to St Lucia last year - stayed at Sandals - there is not much outside of the resorts - its a great island for nature lovers; not an island where there is a lot "to do " other than nature stuff. The place you talk about is a neat little local fishing village - no hotels or restaurants etc to speak of - just native local stuff

Haven't been to Anse Chastenet in years, but my husband and I really enjoyed ourselves. It is a very quiet, restful spot. The people are very friendly the hut we stayed in wasn't elaborate, but just right, beautiful folliage all around. Went diving and rented a small yacht for a day. The 2 man crew cooked us lunch, while we swam.
There is not much to do outside the resort, the town is not meant to buy big purchases, but so relaxing, no pressures. It wasn't our honeymoon, but it could have been our second.

We went to Anse Chastanet 2-3 years ago - just loved it. We split our 2 weeks - stayed "up north" the first week, then Anse Chastanet the second. The roads leading to hotel very washed out - we had to travel via long route. Resort is next to Soufriere, a small town with few amenities. The one restaurant at the resort is expensive, but food is superb. Your best bet is probably to go all-inclusive due to lack of other nearby eateries. It's a wonderful spot smack-dab in the rain forest with a view of the Pitons - very romantic, just right for a honeymoon.

Hi, Been to anse ch. twice things you should no:
It's not for the week 300 steps up to our room from the beach.
Everything you need is at the beach...good bathroom.
One of the best snorkle spots I have ever seen uder water park 2 feet off the beach..much sea life.
Very tropical.
Lunch is great big bar b q grilled fish and veg.
Dinner was just ok at best.
There are some gardens and waterfalls you can go to after breakfest..wonderful, back on the beach by lunch!
I would get up early and watch the small boats arrive on the beach bringing in the daily catch along with fruits and other provisions everyday..that fresh fish!
Very good PADI dive shop on beach become cert. in 5 days or take a resort dive course 75.00 and dive all
week long...worth it!!!
Best rooms are not on the beach...bugs and noise!
I suggest 14 a or b great view in the middle of the rain forrest..wow what a view.
Half way up the mountain it's noisy with lack of view..so 300 steps up up up is the best..travel agents should beware when booking.
Call down there and ask for winnie tell her I said to call ask for 14 block you wont be disapointed.
No phone or air in room you dont need ..great breeze every night..our room had a sky painted on it !!

as I said before you can nail direct if you like more info!...ps dont let the ride to hotel scare you it's beautiful...have fun, john

Went to Anse Chaste in 84 for honeymoon. It was much more secluded than I expected. We went in early Oct and there were only a few other couples sthere at the time. The snorkeling and resort course dive were terrific. Not a lot to do outside of the resort that is close by. Food was pretty good from what I remember. If you really want to be secluded it's OK but if you want some activity and some variety you might look elsewhere.

Went to Anse Chasanet 2 years ago. Had a great time. We were there for 3 nights, spent 3 nights at Ladera (absolutely spectacular) and 3 nights at the north of the island. I agree with one of the previous posts. It is a very long way to the beach from one of the top rooms. The resort had overbooked the premium rooms when we were there, so they gave us a private home at the very top of the resort. It was huge and very nice. But we drove to the beach and back. So did a lot of other people. There are only a few restaurants outside of Anse Chastanet. I would take a meal plan. But if you have a chance go to Ladera for dinner. The food is very good and the view wonderful. enjoy

Saw your note referencing a stay "up north" on St. Lucia. Heading there ourselves in 2 weeks and just wondering if you might have any tips on that area. Staying in a lesser known apt/hotel near Reduit/Rodney Bay. (Tuxedo Villas--ever hear of it?)
Being the adventureous types, we plan on having a car. How long is the drive down to A.C. for snorkling, Castries, Marigot Bay, etc? Any good restaurants in that area that you can recall? Food markets nearby? Thanks in advance for any advice.
Regards,
Bruce F

We stayed in the Rodney Bay area for three days before we went to Ladera and Anse Chastanet. We stayed at a little hotel, the Candyo. Had a room with two double beds, a living room and kitchen, for $70/night. It was very clean and nice. Even had a swimming pool, bar and restaurant onthe grounds. It is at least a 2 hour drive down to Anse Chastanet. If you have driven island roads before you should not have a problem. They are very hilly, twisty with blind curves etc. But the road condition itself was very good. We did not really have a problem. Got a map from the tourist board before we left. The jump up at Gros Islet was fun. May not be for everyone, but we had a good time. If you go take a taxi, there is not place to park. There was a modern food store on the main road not far south of Rodney Bay. We ate at Capones, The Chart House, the Lime, among others in that area. If you want info on them I'll be glad to send it. Snorkeling was great at Anse Chastanet. Also went to the rain forest, sulfur springs and the rest of the tourist spots. The island is quite beautiful. The pitons are sight to be seen. There are boat trips that you can take from the north end of the island down to Anse Chastanet for snorkeling. That might be the way to go. We had a great time. Food was great, the people friendly. The one thing that bothered me was all the stray dogs and cats around, hundreds. It was really quite sad. But I guess that is the norm on a lot of these islands. Have agreat time, and if you have any more questions, please e-mail me. Kathy

The worst vacation ever....Cloud 9 is the private home at the top....330 stps(ver steep0 to the beach...No air conditioning..mosquito nets to protect from the bugs at night...Food fair at best.he private chef can only cook 2 dishes...Roads are not paved so impossible to sightsee ...management not very responsive or concerned...Beautful views and good diving but there are many other places better...Hoe about Grand Caman...Plantana is beautful on the beach and not expensive.....
