St. Lucia and Dominica
We are one couple and 2 friends planning a trip to both Dominica (our 2nd trip there) and first to St. Lucia. We all enjoy hiking,( 2 more than the others) as well as beach, snorkeling, not-to-late nightlife and good dinners with sunsets. We tend not to go for the large resorts, preferring the more intimate inns/hotels. We will want to hike one of the Pitons, but also hear that the southern half of the island in St. Lucia is lovely. Might like to see some hidden waterfalls. ANy suggestions and advice would help. Thanks

Well, the Pitons ARE in the southern half of the island, so I'm not sure what you meant by that comment. Ti Kaye (www.tikaye.com) would be a good place for the 4 of you--intimate size, cute cottages, pretty nice beach, decent snorkeling, and a "hike" just to get from one end of the resort to another.
It's also a good price (rates include full breakfast), plus they can arrange all kinds of daytrips for you--hiking, horseback riding, water taxi into Soufriere or Castries, even a daytrip to the Grenadines. The restaurant there has a good reputation and it faces west, so you'd have your good dinners w/ sunsets.
One drawback is that it's pretty isolated from either of the main centers of commerce/tourism on the island.
If you want to stay in the southern half near Soufriere/the Pitons, you could check out Ladera (really romantic/honeymoon atmosphere, so your two friends might not enjoy that as much), Jalousie PLantation (large resort, but generally a well-done one), or Anse Chastenet. There's also a small place in Soufriere called Mago, but I don't really know much about it.

in St.Lucia, definitely go for Jalousie Hilton. it's beautiful, romantic , very seclusive, and you'll get your own plunge pool. Snorkeling is right at the beach. it's wonderful, you'll find lots of stuff, from eels to fish to corals. Also they have free sports activities there as well.

raccoon, Jalousie is no longer part of the Hilton operation, but I had to tell you that I like the new word you coined -- "seclusive" would be a good word to describe many of the hotels and resorts mentioned on these boards--secluded and exclusive. Though I personally tend to bristle at the thought of exclusivity, many folks are actively searching for that in a vacation, especially honeymoons.
