There really isn't too much walk to the beach in St. John. Most killer beaches are within 10-15 minutes, by 4x4 of course. If you are laid back, stay in Coral Bay area.

Although I like to travel to the the Coral Bay area myself. I would not stay in the Coral Bay area with teenagers(too dull, too far away from Cruz Bay)

There are so many wonderful villas in STJ, it would be impossible to chose the best. However, IMHO, the best villas are the ones higher up on the hillswith the many spectacular vistas that you are afforded. Personally, I would not want a villa close to the water and miss the views. Additionally, we have always been bothered by the noseeums and mosquitoes, so prefer the breezes that the higher altitudes offer. Lastly, the very best beaches on STJ are those that you travel to in your 4WD. A week is really not enough to experience the many beaches available to you. I, too, would avoid staying in Coral Bay - at least on your first trip - too far from Cruz Bay and many of the restaurants, however, we love the atmosphere at Coral Bay and always a stop at Shipwreck Landing for lunch or afternoon drinks.

Log on to the wonderful USVI website www.usvi-on-line.com
and all your questions will be answered.

Feel free to e'mail me personally if you have other questions. We have been traveling to STJ annually for the past seven years since we "discovered" this jewel of an island.
