Does anyone have info on Suite St. John at Gallows Point or Matheny's at Gallows Point? It's a subrental plan for Gallows Point Suite Resort. I've narrowed down our July vacation for family of 4 (2 teens) to St. John, and this looks promising. Any condo recommendations? Any good stories about villa rentals through Island Getaways, Vacation Vistas, Destination St. John, or Catered To? This will be our first visit to the USVI, and I'm concerned about security in an isolated home. I'm also uncomfortable about putting all rental money up front. All suggestions are appreciated.

Going to St. John for first time this July also.
We're staying at Gallows Point so that all of our
party of 4 has the freedom to walk to town when the
others are off in the car. Good access. Supposed
to have good snorkling off the point also, but very
little beach. We'll see ......

I rent through Kathy DeMar of Vacation Homes (809)776-6094, and I've been very pleased. I put a 50%25 deposit when I rent the house, and the remainder about 30 days prior to arrival. My recommendations are to rent on the North Shore of St. John. There are many fewer homes, but you are close to nice beaches. We feel 100%25 safe in St. John, with no concern about being in a private home. I would not feel safe doing this in St. Thomas (in fact, the last three times we've been to St. John, the only time we've been to St. Thomas is to and from the airport). St. John is paradise. You will love it.

We rented through Kathy DeMar and were pleased. This is a very safe island except for possible petty robbery. We rented Maria Breexe for three adults and two teens- very large and private and a good price because it is an older home-0 georgeous views and nice neighborhood above the Westin- Great Cruz Bay Road in Choolate Hole. Gallow Point is beautifull and has the advantage of letting you walk to twon which your boys night want to do alone but it does not provide much privacy for four people.

St. John is a very safe island. I wouldn't hesitate to stay in a private home. If you are lucky enough to be there for the 4th of July they have a fantastic Carnivale with music, steel drum bands, food, parades fireworks and a rockin' good time. check it out!
