St. Croix Hotels
Have been looking at 4-night packages to St. Croix. Two hotel options are available: The Carambola Beach Resort or the Divi Carina Bay Casino & Resort. Prices are the same for both. On the map, both hotels seem to be remote. Is it necessary to rent a car? Any advice on which of these two hotels are preferred and why? Thanks!

We just returned from St. Croix yesterday and loved it~! We played golf at Carambala-beautiful area, lush and tropical, but is close to the rain forest so receives alot of rain! The property is nice but rooms look very dark- and also understand they have constant ownership changes. We drove by the Divi- on the east side- looked ok but not fantastic....what about The Bucanneer? We stayed there and loved it! Only 5 minutes from town, so easy to go into the many great restaurants! We did rent a car for a couple days but if you choose either of those locations, you would probabley want a car unless you want to hang only at the resort. There are lots of great restaurants, so would suggest trying some of them. The locals were very friendly and made our stay enjoyable. Have a great trip! Susan

Agree that the Buccaneer is a wonderful choice but, since you mention package, I assume that it's not a consideration. I'd probably choose the Divi - it is a little closer to town (and the wonderful restaurants there) and it's an easier drive to town as well. It's on the drier end of the island and it's a newer property, so is not quite as lush anyway due to less rain. Still beautiful in a different way with a very nice beach and facilities.
The Carambola is also very nice, but more secluded and a further drive from anything. It all comes down to your personal preferences in a vacation - I actually prefer to stay in a small hotel on the waterfront in downtown Christiansted.

We stayed at the Hibiscus Beach Hotel, and had a beach-front room. Very nice. Definately rent a car to visit Christensted and Frederickstown (sp.?) The drive atop the hills offer breath-taking ocean views. Don't forget to drive through the sub-tropical rain forests and visit the beer-guzzling pig. Robert
