my boyfriend and I are going to st.croix for new year's this year. We have a hotel but want to camp on or near the beach on dec.30th-2nd. any ideas of were to go and if it costs anything to pitch a tent on the beach? Or should we consider going to st.john for those 3 days? any advice would be a great help, its hard to find this info on the net.

I lived on St Croix from 89 to 94. I wouldnt advise camping out on any beach on STX. Especially if there is only 2 of you. Im not aware of camping sites there either. Go to Cinnamon Bay on St John.

Just got back from STX last night - had a great time, great food, terrific snorkeling, etc. But I never saw so many padlocks in my life - everything is under lock and key. Also, looked more like the Bronx or Brooklyn - every porch and window with bars (nice grill work though), every lot and resort with concertina wire - sooooo - yeah, I would n't camp out there for love or money...
