Half Moon Beach Resort

My husband and I are renting a villa at the Half Moon Beach Resort next June. Would appreciate comments from anyone who has stayed the resort.

If I'm thinking of the correct place (and I know of only one hotel on Half Moon Bay in Antigua), then this hotel has been closed for a few years because of a partnership dispute of some kind. I read an article
recently in the Antigua Sun that it will reopen sometime next year after refurbishment. I have never stayed there, but have heard good things from people who have in past years.
The location is fabulous---spacious grounds on
one of Antigua's most beautiful beaches.

I am confused ... I don't profess to know all the resorts but this thread has me confused or am I having a "senior moment?" Half Moon Bay is on Jamaica, no? There were plans for Jumby Bay, on Antigua, to join the Half Moon "group" ... Elegant Resorts and Heinz Simonitsch as co-owner and manager of Half Moon on Ja. The deed is done last week according to an IM I received this am early! Jumby was closed for an extended period due to a dispute with the very involved homeowners and did open briefly last winter under the "new" reborn RockResorts. It is hoped that Jumby, which is a beautiful property with at least two wonderful beaches and occupies its own island, Long Bay Island aka Jumby Bay Island, will rightfully reclaim its former status of one of the premier Caribb resorts - and in my humble opinion - the ultimate all inclusive! There are differing accomodations available at Jumby ... villas that are TownHouse-like and others in the Pond Bay area that are more intimate (and jr. suites and roundels)! The private homes and villas are breathtaking! When Banfi's operated Jumby, one overlooked the few disadvantages (the planes roaring overhead - just a few a day!) and relished in the luxury ... think Frommer's called it "obscene!" Please correct me if I am way off base here!

Sorry for the confusion. There IS a Half Moon Bay on Antigua and there is a hotel there. Nothing to do with Jumby. Also nothing to do with the original poster's query, which concerned Jamaica. Can't help you there.

Thanks, June, for telling me about Half Moon on Antigua and refreshing my senior moment! Funny how it shares the same history with Jumby! Guess anybody wanting to know about Jumby got that info too! This thread gives new meaning to the reference of "on topic posts!" At least we were all in the Caribb! LOL!

The Half Moon Resort in Jamaica is about a 10 minute ride from the Montego Bay airport...it's a fabulous resort with a large variety of accommodations:rooms, suites and large or small villas...the grounds are gorgeous although the beach area is about average for Jamaica...there's a great golf course along with tennis courts, water sports...The villas are located a good ways from the main building although they have shuttles frequently and you can rent bicycles, which I do recommend! We had a wonderful stay and would love to visit again.
