Stayed at Calabash in May and loved the hotel. In fact, we are going back to Calabash in October. We did stop at Spice Island to check it out. As my visit to Spice Island was brief I can only tell you what I liked about Calabash. Spice Island is a beautiful hotel and there is probaly more activity at Spice Island than Calabash and the beach is much nicer but I am looking for quiet on vacation and that is what I found at Calabash.

Calabash is very quiet. The day starts with your breakfast being served on your patio. Your maid will cook your breakfast. Then we would go to the beach. Around 11AM, a waiter will deliver either fresh fruit or a fresh fruit drink to whoever is on the beach. Somedays, we would have lunch at the beach restaurant. Beach was never crowded and there were plenty of lounge chairs. Only negative was that there was some grass in the water in places. Mid afternoon we would shift to the pool. There were never more than a half dozen people at the pool at any time that we were there. If you wanted a drink at the pool, you just phoned the beach bar and they brought the drink up to the pool. At 4PM, afternoon tea was served which consisted of cookies, small sandwiches and a bread. At 6PM, a waiter would deliver a small tray with appetizers. Each night there would be different appetizers. Most nights we ate dinner at Cicely the hotel restaurant. Food was excellent.

The room we had consisted of a huge bath with whirlpool tub, shower, bidet etc. We had a sitting room which had a small mini-bar containing soda, liquor, beer for a fee. also, a large bedroom with king size bed. Our room was next to the main building and at first we thought we would not like it but it turned out to be a room with a great location. There was no TV in the room which did not bother me. There is a TV room which also contains the computer that is available for use no charge.

We did rent a car and toured the island. Hotel arranged for rental agency to come to the hotel and the rental business was done in no time.

E-mail me if you have any questions.
