osme touring ideas:
-drive east on bight road (behind all the resorts) into the leeward neighborhood
-go to long bay beach. fairly deserted, long beach, some sections are full of conch shells.
-you must go out to chalk sound. not for swimming, but the most amazing color of tourquoise water i've ever seen. lots of very cool houses to look at. if you go out chalk sound road you'll come to a Y in the road. if you go left you'll come to this house: http://www.vladi-private-islands.de/...ald%20Cay.html it's quite spectacular. also just after you turn right onto chalk sound road on your left you'll see a tiny sand road into sopadilla bay beach. stop there for a swim.
-if you have a jeep (needed for clearance/ if not you can trade for one day) drive out to malcolm road beach. the beach is gorgeous, snorkeling good, NO services, next to amanyara.
- drive out blue hills hwy. you'll pass da conch shack where you should stop and try conch. road goes out to northwest point resort. traveling this road will allow you to see what provo looked like before developement.
here's a pretty good map:

food
-anacaona is a favorite. very romantic, very island feel with thatched roof, good food, service is very island time.
sharkbite has a good burger
tiki hut is tons of fun and good food.
i liked the italian at bella luna.
da conch shack for conch
we enjoyed sunday brunch at mango reef
it's been too long since i was on provo to suggest who has the best food now but hopefully someone else (blamona or caribzack) will post with most recent thoughts.
this page is helpful: http://www.tcimall.com/restaurant/index.htm

Check out www.WhereWhenHow.com and www.WhereWhenHow.tc for excursions, restaurants, everything you need to know. You can email them, they mail you a hard copy of the magaine (you'll get it in about 2 weeks) you may end up subscribing to it, once you fall in love with T&C you'll want the mail reminder to keep reliving your trip! ;-) Once you are on island, you can pick up a free copy many places around the island, and a free copy of the companion dinning guide.

Do not miss: you have to get out on that unbelievable water! An excursion with Caicos Dream Tours or Sail Provo are a must. 1/2 or whole day sails go snorkeling on the reef, dive for conch in shallow water, snorkel for sand dollars, and the best part, stop at a secluded beach on the cays, where the beaches are amazing. Half Moon Bay is one of the most incredible strands you'll ever see.

Go to Blue Hills to Da Conch Shack, so colorful, on the water, and go a little further down and check out the multi colorful little buildings on the beach. Drive to Sapadilla Bay and Taylor Bay, where the water is shallow for hundreds of yards and bright turquoise, in January Sapadilla Bay will form little sand bars that are very cool during low tide. If you go to Malcolm's Beach, walk towards Amanyara, that's where the beach gets stunning. If you stay at the parking lot, you won't get it. Drive to Pelican Beach, where you can find bright white huge conch shells to bring home (make sure there's nothing alive in them-and you're allowed to bring back 2) Drive to Coral Gardens and snorkel like crazy, and snorkel at Smith's Reef. Go to Windsong and SNUBA, like scuba without the tanks or certification.

For food:
Tuesday nights at Somerset sunset beach lobster
Wednesday nights Tiki Hut, cheap but delicious ribs
Thursday night Quintin Dean plays music while you dine at Hemmingways.
Friday nights, do not miss O'Soleil with Daniel and Nadine singing under the stars. (They also play at Regent Palms and Somewhere on the Beach restaurants on other nights)

Do not miss Coco Bistro, the best restaurant on the island.

A terrifically romantic night, start with drinks at Anacaona, where you'll never see a better setting, followed by the awesome food of Coyaba.

For nightlife, there's not much of it, but on weekends there are DJs and live music parties at Bagatelle at Gansevoort-very hip and chic, might even mingle with celebrities. You can follow that with the Casablanca Casino.

If there is a full moon, look for Full Moon parties at Bay Bistro (on the beach bonfire) and Horse Eyed Jacks. 4 to 5 days after full moons you can do a nightly glow worm boat excursion, were the worms twinkle like stars in the water.

There is a new ATV company, I won't try it until October, but it looks like fun, and a chance to ride them on beaches you wouldn't otherwise see.

You can day trip to other islands, flight to Salt Cay (Fridays only) or Grand Turk (daily) for completely different experiences, yet be back in Provo for dinner. You can take the ferry to North Caicos, rent a car, explore it and Middle Caicos; North has a pond with flamingos, Middle has caves and Mudjin Harbour, which is breathtaking. Above the cliffs of Mudjin Harbour there is a statue of praying hands, follow that path to a small private beach.

Have at least 1 lunch at Da Conch Shack. (Maybe the day you check out Malcolm's Beach)

Of course, I highly recommend you buy Fodor's In Focus: Turks and Caicos, which I personally wrote! It even has a section in the back so you can write down notes. 8-)
