Small hotels in Negril

Hoping to go to Jamaica (first visit) end of next week on a last minute trip. Alot of the big hotels are full eg the AI Couples properties so we are looking at alternative options. Have been reading the various reviews, like the look of Charela Inn or Idle A While and these suit our budget, would like some other suggestions as it seems availability is really tight around this time.
We are a couple, not taking children. We would also consider other places to stay eg Montego Bay.
Thank you!!

Or on the cliffs.....
The couple from Negril Onestop are super to work with. Costs r the same through them as working directly with hotel. Their website is super, they do Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, Port Antonio....take a peek!!!

Idle Awhile is much, much nicer than Charela Inn. A step down from that and just next door is Coco La Palm, where we've stayed many times, but only book it if you can reserve the upper floor rooms/ jr. suites. The ground floor standard rooms have had plumbing issues when we've stayed in the past, and aren't as nice as the upper rooms anyway.

Another thought if you don't mind being away from the beach and on the cliffs, is ROCKHOUSE, which has several free-standing rooms scattered along it's cliffside location. Each unit has a ladder down to the sea, and it is a spectacular spot if you can give up a beachside location.

I wanted to add that Montego Bay does not compare favorably to Negril. It caters to tour packages/cruises, and has much less local flavor/culture, as well as a disappointing ( for the most part) beach.

I'm staying at Tensing Pen next summer for a week. It's on the cliffs in Negril. I also suggest sticking with Negril, over Montego Bay.

Tensing Pen looks wonderful but is a little overbudget for us. Looks as if Sunset at the Palms can accommodate for some nights and Idle A While for the remainder, which would be fine.

check out the message board on negril.com there is alot of good info there. the places you've chosen are very nice, you'll have a great time! just a short walk up the beach from I/A is the sun beach bar, good food reasonable prices. next door charela is a good place for dinner, also normas@ seasplash. they will send a cab to pick you up too. 2for1 drinks @ white sands.
