Sereno Beach - Comments?

I'm considering the Sereno Beach Hotel in St. Barth's. It looks like an excellent value off-peak (although I've never been to this island). Being right on a beach is important to me, but I have seen a few postings noting that the beach on which this small hotel is located is not very good. I'd appreciate hearing the comments of anyone who knows whether or not that is true, and if so, what about it makes the beach not-so-good? Any additional comments on thi shotel or its restaurant (BouBou's) would be interesting to me as well. Thanks.

Sereno Beach has recently been purghased by new owners and Bou Bous is gone.I have stayed there before but I would wait a year or two to see what new owners do with hotel and restaurants. We will be in a Villa Nov.22-30 next month and will check it out.

El Sereno is located on Grand Cul de Sac, which is not the ocean, it's a reef protected lagoon. Basically it is always free of surf, it has a uniform depth of 3-4 feet and the bottom is just bare or dull seagrass. Snorkeling is a waste of time. It is sort of like being in ocean bath water. If you want to lay on a float with a drink in your hand it's fine, but if you want ocean surf you won't get it. Another poster mentioned that Bou Bou's is gone - if so that's a shame it is/was a really nice place, one of my favorites on the island.

My husband I and stayed at Sereno Beach Hotel two summers ago. The hotel was nice &amp; quiet. We had the pool to ourselves. The rooms were newly furnished, clean, with tile floors and a patio. The service was excellent. I am sorry to hear about Bou Bou's - had excellent food and a fantastic atmosphere. As for the Grande cul de sac, we snorkled there and saw a lot of fish and a Baracuda (sp?) but the best snorkling was in St. Jean near Eden Roc and off a day cruise. You have to hike to the best beaches - but they are worth the hike. But everything on the island is very close - it's a very small island. We would definately stay there again.

Got back from SBH two weeks ago-the Sereno was one of the few hotels on the island which had not reopened.<BR>Had lunch nearby at Indigo at the Guanahani and spent the afternoon on the beach-the beach is fine but the water is not a patch on any of the other beaches on the island.I don't like standing on seaweed or whatever when I can have sand underfoot. The water is cloudier than the other beaches but there are good facilities for learning to windsurf and it is very safe.If swimming is important,I would rent a villa or stay in St Jean

this hotel was fabulous..went the end of jan 2003..the property, rooms, beach, pool and restaurant/bar were great.. i suggest highly you book an oceanview suite..the garden rooms are small..the staff was very friendly, extremly helpful, and eager to make sure your time spent on the island was wonderful..we really enjoyed our stay and can't say enough good things about the sereno beach..we are definately going back next year..
