Sapphire Beach Resort - St Thomas, USVI
I am trying to plan a trip to the Sapphire Beach Resort for next spring. I have heard that St. Thomas is not too safe for tourists. Is there any truth to this? I am really looking for any recent first hand information on this resort and St. Thomas. Thanks!

We have stayed 6 times at Sapphire Beach Resort. To me, it is my favorite place so far in the
Caribbean, and I have been to many..It is on the other side of St. Thomas from the airport, so after many stays there, I decided it was worth the money to rent a car. However, they drive on the left, and unless you are familiar with it, consider the expensive taxis, or the hotel shuttel bus. The resort itself is the best, all the rooms are beachfront, the best ones if you are a couple is the ground floor beachfront suites - all rooms have full kitchens and tile baths, and have patio doors that open onto a gorgeous white sand beach that overlooks St. John and the British Virgin Islands...I love it.
In fact we are leaving for Tortola the day after tomorrow, June 5, and we are still talking about a night or two at Sapphire Beach before we return home. It's great. As far as the safety on St. Thomas, we hear that every year, and we never have had a problem at all, even with a rental car...If you like good local bars, with good inexpensive sandwiches /like for lunch/ and cold beer, be sure to try Duffy's Love Shack in the parking lot of Red Hook Market...it's great....Let me know if you like it....Lisa Gregory - [email protected]

Thanks Lisa for your help! I have a couple more questions if you wouldn't mind. Is there any restaurants shopping, or entertainment that you could walk to from the Sapphire Beach? How expensive are those expensive taxis to/from the airport or reataurants? Does the Sapphire have any good restaurants and any entertainment? Did this hotel/beach have any damage the hurricane? Enjoy you trip and Thanks again!

Dear Debi:
Our family is going to Sapphire Beach Resort this summer (2 adults, 7 and 12yo children) so I will pay attention to your specific questions when we go. This is our first time in the Caribbean aside from a cruise sans kids, so I will be an unbiased observer.
