Sandy Lane in Barbados

We are going to Barbados over Christmas. Everyone seems to be raving about Sandy Lane. Do they have a restaurant where people not staying there can dine? I'd love to just see the resort.

Sorry I don't have an answer, but thought I would tag onto this post to ask a question on Sandy Lane. We are an early 30's couple who enjoy an active lifestyle and also enjoy the finer things in life. I have read the brochures and the posts on here regarding how wonderful Sandy Lane is and I am sold. The only things holding me back from booking a March vacation there is 1) Will the average age group be to old for us? 2) Is there any nightlife either at the resort or close by? can anyone who has been there address these concerns?

Tim,
The resort has 3 restaurants that are open to the public. The food was very good -- a bit pricey but worth it. Entertainment is very low key at this resort, a piano player, quiet drinks in the lounge, etc.
Most of the action is at St.Lawrence Gap on the SOuth Coast which is about a 20 min taxi ride from the resort. If this fits into your budget you won't be disappointed!!
Bacu or maybe Baku nightclub is only about 5 mins drive- turn left, the Crocodile bar can be fun, turn right. Nightlife in the hotel is quiet and dull!

My family and I just returned (11/10)from an 8 day stay at the Sandy Lane. We travel frequently and usually stay at 4 Seasons or RC properties when available. Let me assure you -- the Sandy Lane is a gorgeous property that rivals or exceeds anything we have seen in the islands. The atmosphere is casual elegance - relaxed but definitely upscale and family friendly.
The mix of guests varied from 20 something honeymooners to families in the 40 to 50 age range. The rooms are spectacular with attention to detail and huge furnished verandhas by hotel standards.
Food was good to excellent and priced comparatively to most of the other upscale restaurants we dined at. My only concern was that L'Acajou remains closed for renovation, and that the service was not as polished or organized as one would expect from this class of accomodations. Holetown with its many restaurants, bars, and small shops is about a 15 min walk from Sandy Lane. The transportation staff is top notch! Can not wait to return! Feel free to e-mail for further info.....
