San Juan Marriott
Has anyone stayed at the San Juan Marriott? I'd be interested in any comments on this hotel such as rooms, beach, and the casino. Thanks for any feedback. Or any other recommendations for hotels.

We stayed at the Marriott in Condado about six years ago in November. All in all it was a very great vacation for us. The hotel itself is fine -- not luxury by any standards, the poole and grounds were well-kept, the room was fine but had some mildew in the bathroom.
We stayed in the lower buidling and had a room overlooking the pool and beach -- from what I hear, the rooms in the Tower were not as nice (even though they were higher priced) -- remember this was several years ago.
What most impressed me about the hotel was the staff -- ever one of the folks staffing the concierge desk had great recommendations and were very helpful. We are from New York, and wanted some "adventurous" and local restaurants -- they sent us to several -- one of which just two blocks away whose name I wish I could remember -- and it was some of the best vacation dining we've had.
We also loved Condado -- not a resort-y as Isla Verde -- but very convenient via bus to Old San Juan.
One thing to know -- the beach in front of the Marriott is not "pristine" and there were when we were there some sketchy areas -- you had to show a room key to get back onto the Marriott property from the beach.

We were there in July '06 with our teenage kids. It's definitely not a resort, it's a hotel on the beach. The beach was nice and we spend most of our tinme there. The area was packed, mostly with families.
The location was good and there were several places to eat within a short walk. We found a great place for an inexpensive breakfast a couple of blocks away (exit hotel and make a left on the main street).
I can't speak for the casino because we didn't bother with it.
You should check comments on tripadvisor. There are many. There also are many photos of the hotel facilities.

The beach at the Marriott is ok ... not great, but as good as any in Condado. The beaches in Isla Verde are much better and the Courtyard Isla Verde has a better "resort" atmosphere. The rooms at the Marriott have been renovated within the past year, so that is a plus, but the lobby is still loud and obnoxious.
