I've been to Grand Cayman and feel extremely safe there as far as going out at night, etc. Can anyone comment on whether the same is true for Turks and Caicos?

My wife and I spent 2 weeks in TCI and never felt unsafe, night or day. For dinner one night we went to what was advertised as a sports bar (up behind the Comfort Suites Hotel) Well it was really more of a pool hall or arcade that offered food. The place was quite busy. We were the only tourists. One of the lads playing pool had to leave and asked if I would like to finish his game. Well I won that game and two more. I was a little uncomfortable (for naught)beating a man at his local hall. He and I had a good laugh about the turn of events and ended up sharing a few too many brew.

I've been to both islands (Tci 7 times) and can tell you that both are extremely safe. My husband and I rent a car on provo and go out exploring well into the night. We take late night walks on the beach and around the steets of the Grace Bay area. We never once had a negative experience.

When we are in the T&C, my husband regularly walks for miles along the beach at Grace Bay at all hours of the day and night - never a problem.

Have been to T&C several times. I think the thing to remember is that no matter where you are you need to be aware of your surrounding. Five years ago we rented a villa and were broken into. That same evening, a number of folks were broken into as well. The lesson we learned was not to rent a private villa if the owner was not on the island. Even though there was a management company, we couldn't get hold of them and it took us 4 days to reach the owner. We abandoned the villa, broken louvers and all, and checked into a different property. On another visit, someone attempted to take my bag. I think it is a great island, but it has grown too much. Have been to Grand Cayman twice. I think Grace Bay is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and is heads over Seven Mile Beach If your nervous at all, I would go to Grand Cayman or stay at one of the larger properties on Turks (Ocean Club, Sands, etc., that have security. I definitely would not stroll the beach at any hour.

It always surprises me when I see a post with "Safety" as the heading.

I always want to ask the original poster what they mean by safety.

Is there a hometown anywhere in the world today that is "safe" ? If so let us all know because I'm sure the property values would skyrocket.

If you leave that safe town, you are first at risk on the highway to the airport.

Once on the plane, we all know the risks. Then when you rent a car, and do your best to adapt, perhaps, to driving on a different side of the road, might you be safe ?

If you choose to take a taxi/cab to your destination, is your driver safe ? My thought is not robbery, but what kind of driver is he/she ?? Will you arrive at your hotel...safely ??

Travel of any kind has certain risks...whether that's in our own hometown or if we choose to explore the joys of a different land.

Just my 2 cents on something that bothers me...especially on a cold Monday...when it's still two weeks before I leave for Jamaica ;-) !
