I was thinking of making a reservation at El Conquistador for October, but came across quite a few recent reviews by other travelers that really slammed it. Some probelems were worn rooms, poor or mrude service, expensive food, having to walk a distance from your room to anywhere, waitin an hour for a room, unchanged sheets, etc. This scared me & I thought I might get more feedback from others. Tell me your experience. Thanks

To Sparks: Yes, everything you heard is true. I had the same experience there. We saw the ads and brochure for the place (and the prices) and tought it was a high quality, luxury resort. We were VERY disappointed with our vacation..especially knowing what we paid for it!! Take your money somewhere else. Oh yea..you left out the other part about the resort..the high number of screaming Puerto Rican kids running around the place. If you don't mind staying in your room to get some R & R, then you will be fine there. We were COUNTING the days until we could leave that place. Maybe others had better experiences there, but we didn't.

We've been to Puerto Rico twice this year. Our first stay was at the Westin Rio Mar Beach Resort which is a 1 hour drive from Old San Juan. This lovely beachfront resort sits on 500 acres of scenic tropical beauty and is near the El Yunque Rainforest. They had 18 hole golf courses, 2 swimming pools, health club, 13 tennis courts, a casino, and children's activities. Our second time around we stayed at the Hyatt Regency Cerromar Beach Resort which is on Puerto Rico's north coast. This is an elegant hotel with 1,000 tropical acres and home to one of PR's finest beaches. It also has 4 bars, 6 restaurants, a great casino, health club, spa, and a huge river pool. While drinking our Bacardi & Coke and Pina Coladas from our picturesque balcony, we both knew we were in heaven! So tropical, serene & beautiful. And, we really enjoy the nightlife and great restaurants that PR offers. Our next trip to PR will most likely be at the luxurious Martineau Bay in Vieques.

According to my son who resides in P.R. there was a problem with people getting into the hotel who were not hotel guests, using the pools etc.. There has been a clamp down on that type of activity. A strict security system has been in effect recently. This is not happening anymore.

My husband and I stayed at the El Conquistador (in Fajardo) for two nights in Aug. and loved it. We had a room with an ocean room that also overlooked one of the pools.
The beach is on their private island and was very relaxing. We hiked around the island and went snorkeling right off the shore (it wasn't the best snorkeling, but it was still fun).
