Rockhouse Hotel or Sandals?

I am looking to go to Jamaica for my honeymoon. Could anyone tell me the pro and cons of the Rockhouse Hotel vs. Sandals Negril.

Wow, you have really chosen two very different places to consider. One is a small hotel, the other a big AI; one is on the beach, another is in the cliffs. I've never stayed at Sandals, but did stay at the Rockhouse in January. I admit, I'm not an AI kind of person, so even though I haven't been to Sandals, I know I would pick the Rockhouse every time I was given the choice.

The Rockhouse is a beautiful hotel located in the cliffs of Negril. It is not on a beach, but there is a swimming pool, and there is access to the water for some good snorkeling. Most of the rooms are individual villas, which have one large room, with a separate shower, toilet. Each villa has its own balcony. There are also standard rooms, but I didn't see any of these.

The Rockhouse is an excellent place for a romantic laid-back getaway. My only disappointment was with the service--not horrible, but not what I expected for the cost. We spent a day at the pool, a day at the beach, and another day snorkeling and at the pool.

I believe Sandals is your typical AI. It is located on the beach, with many activities and people available. One thing I loved about Negril was trying different restaurants, and that is a definite downside to an AI--you can't really explore without really changing the value/cost of your experience.

If I were planning a second trip to Negril, I would split my time between the Rockhouse and Idle Awhile, a lovely hotel on the beach. Although the cliffs are gorgeous, in my opinion there is something to be said for waking up and walking out your door barefoot to the ocea.

Good luck deciding. Kym

For eating out reasons alone I would never go AI in Negril. For a honeymoon the cliffs are nice and quiet, the beach in Negril is the busier, more-party place.

Certain units at Rockhouse will give lots of privacy, certain ones won't, I'd check what's available before booking.

I have stayed in both several times.

I really like Rcokhouse but only the villas. It is a unique experience and very private.

But I really love the beach. Idle Awhile is a great choice for quality and privacy.

I would stay away from Sandals as they have declined a lot over the past 5 years. If you are in your 20's and looking for hype and no stop activities, it would be right up your alley.

If an AI is a must, check out Swept Away.

Kudos to KDR...Our 4th trip to JA on May. Sandals MoBay 86(honeymoon)Ochi 94,Negril Grand Lido 02. Time to get ot of the AI rut. Were staying at
Idle Awile 4 nights then 4 nights at Villa Sur Mer on rhe cliffs.
WE KNOW THIS WILL BE THE BEST!!!!
Getting out for food, mingling with the locals, NOT wearing beads or bracelet.
