Restaurant in Paradise Island, Bahamas

BLUE MARLIN BLUE MARLIN BLUE MARLIN
STAY AWAY STAY AWAY
BLUE MARLINE BLUE MARLIN BLUE MARLIN
STAY AWAY STAY AWAY

Stayed at Atlantis in January for a week, tried several restaurants in Paradise Island. The restaurants were pretty good except for one called the BLUE MARLIN (near the Hurricane Hole Plaza). This was the WORST restaurant my family and I have ever been too and we do a lot of travelling. When we first arrived at the door, there were 3 ladies chatting away and did not notice a family of four standing there until I asked for a seat myself. Once we were seated, it took FOREVER for a waitress to take our orders. The waitress herself was not even informed as to what the side orders were with the entree (the types of salad dressing, fries or rice). Then it took 25 minutes for the food to be prepared considering we were one of three families there. When the food came, the waitress got one of our side orderS wrong. That problem was fixed ONLY in 10 minutes. Two of our dinner were pasta entrees and it was the WORST pasta I have ever eaten. Even my 10 year old can make better pasta than the chef at the Blue Marlin. The alfredo sauce was EXTREMELY salty ! I didn't even bother to ask the waitress to bring it back to the chef because it would probably take another 25 minutes to get my food. To think that things could get worst, my husband found a BUG in his pasta sauce. Our family had enough, we just stopped eating and paid the bill and got out of there as fast as we could. Come to think of it we shouldn't have even paid the damn bill.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DON'T GO TO THIS RESTAURANT YOU'LL JUST GET BAD SERVICE AND BAD FOOD !

Karen,

I also stayed at Atlantis but in November with my boyfriend. We tried a different restaurant every night and one of them was The Blue Marlin. I must agree with you, The Blue Marlin was the WORST restaurant we ate at. The food wasn't that good and they were small in portion size. The service that we recieved at the restaurant was also bad. I thought we were invisible the entire time we were there dining there. The servers there just didn't care if we were there or not, it was difficult to get there attention while they were talking and laughing with each other. UNBELIEVABLE

I was at the Atlantis over President's weekend in February. As there was a large group of us, we did not take the meal plan either. Every restaurant we ate in - GrayCliffs, The Pink Pearl, Buena Vista - the service was awful. My feeling is that since the gratuity is already included, they just don't care.

One thing to remember is that service in the Bahamas is a little slower than in the states. It is a different culture and nothing happens quickly there.

That said. I would find it hard to believe that Greycliff was not up to top service. Last time I was there the service was wonderful as was the food.
It is amazing to me that people can have such opposing views! I stayed at Atlantis last spring and had very good service and food. The service was slow at times, but all of the waitstaff were cordial and eager to please. I even had nice conversations with some of the waitors and waitresses at the restaurants. The only restaurant I was not crazy about was Fathoms. The Bahamian Club, Villa D'Este, and Dune were all great! Water's Edge was okay but not great -it was also less expensive.

I also found housekeeping, the bellmen, and the other employees around the resort helpful and courteous.

I live in NY and have traveled quite a bit so I have other hotels, resorts, and restaurants to compare Atlantis to. I feel that at Atlantis you get exactly what is advertised.

I live in NY, and I don't think any of the Atlantis restaurants would pass muster in the big city.
They are way overpriced for what you get. These are typical hotel offerings with 5 star prices. Just not worth the bucks. I don't mind paying the money if I get something worthwhile. Atlantis is NOT it.

As for Blue Marlin.. you get what you pay for. The fun show is worth the time.

Welcome to a third world country that's only recently experienced a tremendous flood of outside tourists! I think Tweedy has good insight; don't expect to be high-paying tourists who are spending large sums of money to expect good service for your hard-earned dollars. The Bahamas have an ingrained history of being slower than molasses when it comes to road repair, fixing up political messes, changing the curriculum of their schools, fighting drugs, and changing their basic cultural mannerisms. If you talk to any Bahamian in Nassau, Long, Eleuthera, Abaco, Grand Bahama, San Salvador, Exuma or Cat Island, they will eventually bring up someone they know who is a distant blood relation, no matter where you are. A galapagos chain of islands of only 750,000 still, despite the influx of millions of tourists, is kind of like a small town culture in many respects(not all, though). They remain an island nation, closely-knit to their past, which conveys "Don't Worry Mon, Be Happy!" That includes waiting on tourists. Most of the time, they do not mean to be disrespectful in these alien places; just board a jitney and get to know them like my wife and I did. Couldn't believe it; we'd board one and be greeted by hello's by the Bahamian passengers every time, with a smile. They just want to be friendly. Remember, they became an independent nation only in the 1970's, and have been mostly fishermen and lived off the ocean for years before the recent huge developments. In the 1970's we used to dive off the ferry over to Hog Island(now Paradise Island) and swim the rest of the way to the mostly isolated island, because there was no PI Bridge. The Bahamians have experienced uncomparable social and economic changes in the last few decades; give them a chance to adjust. Or, maybe, chill out and learn from them; learn how to throw away your watches and live on island time. A Disney World or Cedar Point in Ohio even PI will never become, no matter how hard they try to "train" the Bahamians to adjust. Lucky Devils...wish I could live with that attitude. Well, got to go, I have to plan an all day meeting tomorrow...will be a hectic day! Wish I was lounging under a palm tree on the old Hog Island. Robert

I completely agree with Lisa. I was at the Atlantis in January and thought the food and service was very good. Also like Lisa, I was disappointed in Fathoms - both for the atmosphere and food.

I also agree with Lisa. I've been to Atlantis several times and have always had good service delivered by pleasant people. Atlantis' food is really no more expensive than food at any other upscale resort.
I also agree with Karen--would NOT return to the Blue Marlin!
