No bus service
I say yes to cars-- you can explore Taylor and Sapodilla Bays, see the amazing Chalk Sound (most turquoise water you'll ever see, do not miss) check out Long Bay kitesurfing, snorkel Coral Gardens or Smiths Reef, eat at restaurants further than where you're staying, loading up groceries from supermarket, visit Bugaloos and Da Conch Shack.....
Taxi will cost so much more! (5 minute per person one way keeps adding up)
So yes!

In 35+ years of travel I've never regretting renting a car but on some occasions when I decided against renting a car more times than not it turned out to be a mistake.
Car fares can mount up quickly - budget for a rental car. You'll be glad you did.
