please do NOT read OLD SXM posts about crime on SXM
people, people,people
why on earth are these OLD posts coming up? are we engaged in scare tactics here? can't Fodor's control this?
messge headlines. SXM crime skyrockets... Women raped on SXM.. check the dates.. the year 2000!
it is just not fair when these tactics are used
sure,there is crime on SXM. most of the crime is direceted towards residents NOT tourists.
most tourists come to SXM and throroughly enjoy themselves and are not subjected to any violent crime.there is lot of petty crime so don't leave valuables in your car..that sort of thing
but let's get a hold on things here. Jamaica has hundreds of murders evey year. if SXM has one murder, believe me, it is a big thing, and it is not murders or rapes of tourists that we hear about
what on earth is the agenda of these scare mongers. you don't have to visit SXM.. if you don't like the island, that's ok..just move on. otherwise, just shut up.

What do you suppose their agenda is? That Jeremy pulled that post from a year and a half ago. I figure he must be working for some other island!
Another named Tim, brought up a quote from a ST. Thomas crime post and added it to a Jamaica post. These guys are probably one in the same!
When St. Maarten is bashed then they move on to Jamaica, and then the USVI.
Wonder ifd it will ever stop and let people get good use of the board!

What is so !@#$%^& crazy is that you have no idea who is who and what is legit. That's the agenda - trash the board and sit back after inciting and insulting, stealing other names and all the crap. Don't believe that they will keep anyone away because people are smarter than that and the one or two who do stay away because of a inflammatory post on ONE board won't be missed so it can't be to get people to look at others islands by harming one. Don't know about anyone else but I'm out of here. Same kind of tactics used to destroy other boards. Same person too!

Travel forums like this get trashed constantly by people trying to generate business for themselves or their friends. Techniques such as
-spam (url of the product)
-fake trip report (always the perfect trip that was just So marvelous, no real negatives)
-setup question (Question: I'm looking for a villa on Island X. Answer: guess what, we have the perfect match...)
-gang up on anyone who reports crime etc
-plus countless other techniques, fun to look for them
All these techniques are used by people from villa owners to travel agents, using these boards to further their agenda. They flame up whenever someone posts any negatives. A lot of the negative stuff is actually posted to watch them respond and so flush them out of their holes. Someone could post all the negatives they want about my favorite island, but that's good news for me, cause I benefit if less tourists go there. Of course that works for me cause I have no financial interest in the island. The person who started this thread just drew attention to the very issue that allegedly bothers them, so maybe they have other motives?

Jeremy, you pulled up a thread that had died in 8/2000. I believe in the old adage, "Let sleeping dogs lie". Now people will be reading it all over again. How is that defending St. Martin? By the way, namecalling actually puts you on the level of what you called me!
