Pitons and Soufriere or diving?

On our cruise we have option of a tour to the Pitons and Soufriere by bus and back by boat along the coast. We pass Marigot Bay. But we've read that diving is incredible in St. Lucia. Any advice from experienced travelers? Thanks.

I've heard conflicting reports about the quality of the diving in St. Lucia. My brother-in-law was a beginning diver from Florida. He was not super impressed.

The Piton Mountains are wonderful very green and lush. I took a Day sail and did almost the same as you decribe. We passed Marigot Bay and did some snorkeling the best day trip we have ever taken.

I took the excursion you mentioned in ST. Lucia and loved it. The island is beautiful both by land and sea. The view of the Pitons from the water is incredible. The catamaran stopped for about an hour swim, but the water was not very clear.

St. Lucia is one of the lushest most beautiful islands in the Caribbean. The beaches and color of the water are not in the class of Aruba, Anguilla or Turks & Caicos. We dove in two sites and found the diving to be good. It wasn't the best diving in the caribbean but it was surprisingly good. Especially coming up from the dive and having the Pitons towering above you as you gaze up from the surface of the sea. There was plenty of coral but the fish at the sites we dove were not in abundance. We have found that at other islands that each dive is different - some with lots of fish and others with lots of coral. Trying to find a combo of both is not always possible on every dive. We also took the Unicorn cruise down the coastline from Rodney Bay to Soufriere. It was great! I would recommend this trip over the dive. The view of the coast line is great, it is more relaxing, you tour the botanical gardens, volcano and Soufriere and you get lunch and drinks.
