Perfect Honeymoon Island!?

We are looking for an island with great beaches and snorkleing, great food, great ambience..... I have been checking out some of St John villas (Splendore' looks best so far). We are thinking about a week in St John, then a few days in Virgin Gorda. Or maybe the whole time in St. Barts or Grenada??? There are so many choices! What would be the best option for us on our honeymoon? Money is not so much a problem - we want to go all out and have a blast! Thanks in advance.

If I were you and if snorkeling is important I would consider Grand Cayman - its some of the best snorkeling I've seen and I've been all over the Caribbean. If you interested in a Villa call on George Town Villas located right on seven mile beach.

St. John is gorgeous, as are St. Barts and Grenada. Grand Cayman is a sterilized concrete jungle--Miami at three times the price. I have been to virtually every island in the Caribbean and can report that, in general, the islands with the nicest beaches have the least attractive topography and vice versa. Volcanic Islands are lush, but have brownish black sand and limestone islands have flat monotonous topography with white sand. For a nice blend, the Virgin Islands are a safe bet. I also recommend Harbour Island on Eleuthera in the Bahamas. The sand is pink and the beach is wide. There are not condos on every inch of beach. Have fun!
Look closely at your bill if you pick Caneel... they are notorious for overcharges. It took us the better part of an hour to have over $175 of unauthorized charges removed from our bill!

Will, Just wanted to bump this up for you. We are planning our honeymoon, too-and are also looking for beaches, snorkling. LOL-we've also come across web pages for Splendore villa. Looks nice! Have you been to STJ before? Have you been to usvi-on-line.com travel forums? Lots of great information there.
I've been to Virgin Gorda (Bitter End YC) and loved it. I like to sail, and it was awesome to have the resorts fleet at my disposal. I think a great vacation would be to spend some time on the USVI, some on the BVI. If you like beaches, Deadman Cay on Peter Island, Jost and Anegada are musts.
Keep us all posted. I'm interested to hear what you do decide. Congrats on your upcoming wedding!!

by the way, another great island with very good food, great beaches and great snorkeling is St. Kitts. Great open air dining at some very nice restaurants, uncrowded beaches with smooth warm water and very friendly people. And you can snorkel off of at least a few beaches.

Just wanted to clarify...Deadman's BAY is one of our favorite beaches (called it Cay in earlier post). It's on Peter Island, which is home to Peter Island Resort. We were not guests of the hotel, but had no problems bringing our boat in to the Bay for the afternoon.

I would save Grenada for another trip, while it is beautiful and a great island it is still a bit rough around the edges and might not offer the typye of ambience you're looking for on a honeymoon.

My husband and I just spent our honeymoon on St. Johns in October 2001. It was absolutely gorgeous. We went through Denise at Onlinevacations.com. We stayed at Beausoleil. It was great, except the air conditioning in the bedroom didn't work so it was a bit stuffy at night. We love St. Johns for it's natural beauty (beaches, hikes, etc.) We spent a week there then went to Tortola for 4 days. We took a trip to Virgin Gorda and it was beautiful too (much nicer than tortola). Anegada is a MUST SEE if you have the $$$ and time (it's a short plane ride away ~$125 pp). Well worth the money. We are planning our third trip to St. Johns right now!

It never ceases to amaze me how many people here continually call St. John , "St. John'*S*" !!!, esp., as you note, those who have been there!

I also recomend Caneel Bay on St. John. We went for our honeymoon last November and absolutely loved it. The food was wonderful and there are about 7 beaches on the property- all with snorkeling that was great. Our package offered a sunset cruise, day trip to Little Dix on Virgin Gorda and a snorkeling/beach BBQ excursion. We just got back from Jamaica and although we loved the place we stayed (The Caves), I think that St. John is so much more lush and beautiful and also has better snorkeling. Virgin Gorda was nice to visit for the day, especially The Bathts, but it's a lot more arid and rocky- Little Dix was a beautiful resort but only has one big long beach. At Caneel we loved being able to go to a different beach every day, often sharing it with only one or two other couples. I am looking into St. Vincent/Petit St. Vincent for our next trip- you might want to check that out.

Hi,
Cap Juluca on Anguilla was our choice for our 20th anniversary. The beach is baby powder white and the water is turquoise blue. Pimms was the name of the restaurant when we went, it is probably called something else now. It was delish and the best creme brulee I have ever had. In the restaurant we sat as close to the ocean as we could, we got wet, but it was fun. We threw our rolls into the ocean and you could see the fish come up to eat them. We went on a snorkeling day trip and had a ball. It was magical! BUT have lots of money to take, it is VERY expensive! We plan to go back in two years for our 30th. Our 28th will be in two days...can't wait...it will take us two years to save up for Cap Juluca again!
TC

Hi there, STJ and Jost sound like great choices!
What made you decide on the villa you are renting? Which mgmt company are you renting from? I've exchanged emails with Lisa Durgin of Vacation Vistas. Splendore sounds sooo nice, but then again, so do most of the vacation homes on the island.
When will you be travelling? We are planning early/mid November.
Thanks for your time!!
