Out of the Ordinary!
Looking for a romantic destination that is not your typical tourist destination. Will mainly soak sun, but would pefer to have some adventurous alternatives (volcano, rainforest, nature preserve, etc.) Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Please include any hotel recommendations, if available. Thank you!

We loved St. Lucia and Costa Rica -- both were volcanic with rainforests, and Costa Rica had TONS of nature preserves and wildlife (don't know if you would consider Costa Rica though if you're specifically looking for a Caribbean island). Have also heard great things about Trinidad & Tobago which has a famous nature preserve, have also heard very good things about Dominica, and Nevis as well. You may want to look at a recent hosted forum on the Caribbean which might give you some ideas -- go to the main forums page at the bottom, click on "past hosted forums," and there was one several months ago on the Caribbean.

We stay at Timothy Beach Resort in St. Kitts. It is the only resort on the calm caribbean waters and the island has everything your asking. www.timothybeachresort.com

The Anse Chastanet sounds like a great place for you. It's on the southern part of St. Lucia (away from most of the larger resorts in the North) and has a view of the Pitons, the twin peaks in every direction. It is on the side of a mountain and many of the rooms resemble tree houses. I have never seen anything like it. The dining is all in another treehouse-like restaurant and the food is excellent. The beach is a gray-sand beach, very pretty, secluded and quiet (in a cove) and has excellent snorkeling and food service. It was really different and beautiful.

Grenada may fit the bill for you. Visit www.antilia.com to find out more about one of the less-traveled gems of the Caribbean. For accomodations, I have stayed at Coral Cove (spartan but inexpensive) and Secret Harbour (spectacular but not on the beach). There are hotels located on Grand Anse Beach (Flamboyant,Spice Island Inn and Coyaba come to mind)as well as L'anse Aux Epines (the Calabash), so check them out. For nature, there are rain forests, spice plantations, a crater lake, and waterfalls. Grand Anse Beach is world class, but my personal favorite is Morne Rouge. Going back in December (sailing charter) and can't wait.
