Our Travels to Jamaica
My husband and I traveled to Jamaica and we both wrote about the experience in our blog here:

Our very first trip to Jamaica really opened our eyes. We had a rocky start, but over time we fell in love with the Island. You can see the trip from both of our perspectives and it was truly life changing for us. Negril, Jamaica is absolutely beautiful. The people are warm, the beaches are stunning.
We stayed at the Grand Pineapple and Coco La Palm on our first trip. We've been there 5 times since then. If you've ever thought about going to Jamaica or you're planning a trip there... you'll hopefully enjoy this trip report and find it helpful.

Yes it was pretty amazing. My boyfriend had the idea to go there somehow. So off we went. It was my first trip out of the country. I think we had $100 between us (lol). We ate french fries at Chicken Lavish often for dinner.
We stayed on the cliffs at a place called Sammy's that had both single rooms (in the family home) and camping, this was before there was electricity or a paved road out that way.

Daisyjane82, We stayed on the hip strip at the Gloucestershire Hotel. It was nice back then and the reviews are pretty good, but it is not a five star hotel. Included in the price was an excellent breakfast buffet. The location is great, with easy walking to the beach across the street, casino, shopping and many places to eat. Margaritaville was the biggest club at that time. At night the three of us walked together and had no problems, there were the junior police that patrol the area to make sure visitors were safe. Down Gloucestershire was a taxi stand where we found a guy to take us to Negril and Portland, my friend's home. In Negril we stayed at Caribbean Sun but it wasn't that great. We went to the beach on day, Rick's Cafe and Dunn's River Falls. Jamaica is still one of my favorite islands.
