One and Only Ocean Club for Honeymoon
I'm trying to plan my honeymoon for January 07. The One & Only Ocean Club looks goregous but have read mixed reviews. What I want to know is, is it worth it. We stayed at Cuisinart in Anguilla last year and that's the nicest resort we've stayed in it. It was much less money than One & Only Ocean Club and I'm just wondering if it will compare. To me, all the islands look similarly beautiful, we don't snorkle, we are just looking for good food, luxury accomodations (that are worth the money) and the option of entertainment in the evenings. I read that if you stay at the One and Ony Ocean Club don't stay in the cheaper rooms, only the new wing which i think is like $1,000 a night. Is this true and is it worth it? If not, can you recommend another resort that would be up to par with Cuisinart? Thanks!

$1k a night is pretty steep. if you don't snorkle and your main criteria is good food, luxury accomodations, and evening entertainment then it seems like a good option would be St. Barts.
If white sand beaches are a consideration that should help make your island decision.
I have friends that just got back from Peter Island in the BVI and that was supposedly awesome. I would like to go to Parrot Cay (where Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner got married) in the Turks and Caicos someday, but it may not work for you b/c it's pretty secluded and probably not big on nightlife.
Other posters speak highly of the Four Seasons in Nevis and Sandy Lane in Barbados. Perhaps you should research those on tripadvisor.
And while it's not in the Caribbean, the Four Seasons Costa Rica looks fantastic. One of my friends went for her honeymoon in May and she loved it. But again, there is not going to be much of a night life b/c it's secluded.

Hi! I've heard good things about the One & Only Resorts though not specifically about the one in the Bahamas--although, I did see the resort on Martha Stewart Living and it looked amazing. A good book to check out is "Caribbean Hideaways" by Ian Keown that lists lots of luxurious & romantic hotels throughout the Caribbean. Barbados has a ton of amazing places and most are much more reasonable than $1,000 a night.

I don't think you need to pay the $1k price in order to enjoy the One and Only. I think we paid around $600 last time we were there and had a wonderful time.
January rates should be lower than that.
I've been to both Bahamas and Palmilla, wonderful experience (although I liked Palmilla a bit better, a little less Americanized).

Thanks. The reason i'm leary is that quite a few people who stayed there recently have said if you aren't going to stay in the new Crescent wing (which is over a $1,000 per night in January) then don't even bother going because all the rooms in the hartford wing are old and outdated. If i were paying $200 a night I wouldn't be as worried, but to pay $600 a night for a room the equivalent of a Marriott or a Hyatt would probably make me sick. I guess i'm just looking for someone to tell me that the others are wrong!

I was just at the One and Only in Bahamas in June 2005. I didn't even know there was a new wing. We were in a basic room with no view at all. The room was very comfortable (bed) but the washroom was so basic. No TADA there. The rates were outrageous and not worth it in my opinion. The pool was small and filthy. There was a kids pool but the adults just brought kids to the main pool which was annoying. We didn't even get our chocolate strawberriers and champagne everyday. In my opinion it was not worth the money at all. I could not even fathom spending $1000 there. If I am going to spend that kind of money I want all my meals and more luxury accomodations.
The staff was really nice. Our butler was amazing and so was a front desk lady....
that's about it though
gosh for that money you can go somewhere extremely nice and get pampered.
Rethink that one!

We were at the one and only ocean club in March 2005; we golfed at their course. Our room was beautiful, mosaic bathroom, lovely furnishings, oceanfront patio. We dined on our patio 3 nights.
Yes it's overpriced but they have a premium location.
The library in the main building serves coffee early;
I bumped into Dustin Hoffman twice, he's an early riser.
The reason we splurged on this trip was because the bahamas is the only short and direct flight from montreal to a tropical setting.
I think you could get more bells and whistles for the money elsewhere; the atmosphere at this resort is quiet and subdued, not glitzy.
We love quiet and subdued so we're glad we went.
If you want action at night, this is not the place.

The Bahamas may be a bit cool in January. The weather isn't guaranteed. You could have a nice, warm week... but then again, it could be cooler. The Ocean Club is beautiful. I never actually stayed but went to a wedding there. It was very beautiful but I think I'd choose another resort.... especially for the price.
