Old Wives Tale???
We have visited Cayman twice in late June. This year we are thinking of going end of May. I remember some years ago reading on this forum or another travel forum that the "locals" stayed out of the water from Mother's Day to Father's Day because of "sea lice" or it is when the jellyfish hatch. Does anyone know the validity of this? Also reading about an increase of Denuang (sp) fever in the Caribbean, has Cayman been affected? Thanks for your help.

You've been to Grand Cayman twice in June ... have you experienced jellyfish? We had a condo on 7 Mile for a few years and experienced jellyfish once. It's not worth staying off island for. Dengue fever is spread by mosquitos. Grand Cayman has an excellent mosquito abatement program. The Leeward Islands are probably least effected because of the trade winds but mosquitos are everywhere. Have you ever seen the thumb sized ones at Crater Lake, Oregon, USA?

Thanks for your reply. We have never had a problem with jellyfish while on Cayman. Wasn't sure if we were just missing the hatching season or if we got lucky. Also I don't recall ever seeing a mosquito either, just wondered if there was a huge increase this year. Was nearly eaten up in 2005 on St. Thomas-while asleep in the condo! Thanks.

Wow, I had forgotten about Safe Sea! Thanks for the reminder. Bought it online the first time we went back in 2001. Guess I'll google to find it again. We are booked and I can't wait! Will definately take some Off or the like this time.
