Old Bahama Bay- beach?

Hi:
My husband and I are thinking of heading to Old Bahama Bay for a beach vacation, but great beaches are important and I cannot seem to find great photos on the website. Has anyone been there and can tell about the beach?

thanks!

I also am looking into that hotel and would love to know if it has a beach or if it is simply on a Bay.

Is the beach water where the hotel is situated nice and clear? Or is it just plain bay water like the one in St. John Caneel Bay or Westin? I like beach not really crazy about bay waters. Can anyone answer? Thanks!

We just got back late last night from 8 days on the island. We got word from several residents of the island that Old Bahama Bay was severely damaged, with many buildings virtually leveled. They are not scheduled to open again until April 14th. The beach there is beautiful and it is not really a bay. The waters are more calm than you'll find other places on the island because of the "bay" aspect but it is a true beach. I do not know how much damage or erosion was caused by the hurricanes last September but can say from our visit to the resort last August it was amazing at the time. The water was crystal clear, tropical fish in droves were right up against the beach, and even live conch were manuveuring in their ever-so-slow manner along the beach with no one bothering them. Normally I'd highly recommend it for someone who wanted beach and serenity, but I'm not sure they will be completely up to snuff by April. Hope this helps a little. You can find a bunch of pictures of the area linked on the home page of my website at www.fortunecity.com/oasis/bahia/443/index.ht. That's really the same set of pictures recommended in a previous response here on webshots.

Old Bahama Bay sounds great, I am looking at a May travel time. Any ideas about the weather (too hot or not) and post hurricane damage?? Do you think it will be ready and up and running in April '05??

Old Bahama Bay reopened last Monday. They say they are at 100% readiness for guests.
