The Marriott is on schedule for the "soft" opening on Feb.22nd. This is for contractors, employees, family and friends to work out the many "bugs" they will have. Reservations will be taken for the general public for June or July. This could change depending on corporate.

I contacted Marriott about this property, and they said as 'Bill' posted, MAYBE in Feb., but not sure, cause there's been many delays. The Customer Service/Reservations both don't have any other info, especially about rates, and advise they won't be receiving any info til after 1/31/03.

I was advised 'off the record' that the property might not be truly prepared for opening, with construction equipment, machinery and materials still on the site.

So, I'll wait til 2004 to book there.

I will be staying at this property from April 16th - April 25th. They have a fantastic rate availible due to being freshly open to introduce the property. I was told when I called their temporary office in New Jersey that all the BUILDINGS are finnished but they are still working on the interiors of the Spa and a restaraunt or two. They also said there should not be loud noises, construction people running about, or visualy unapealing conditions due to this work. Since I'm going mainly for what the Islans have to offer, not a hotel, the rate made it perfect for me (under $125.00 per night - next year it will be $300.00+ per night).

Any news on this resort. My husband and I are considering this for a 20th anniversary trip. We we planning to use points but after seeing the current rates it is not worth using up the points. We were looking at re-visiting the Four Seasons on Nevis but just can't pass up the deal at the Marriott - looking for any feedback.

Just back from 4 nights on St. Kitts and 5 on Nevis. We went to the grand "soft" opening of the Marriott. If you like HUGE american style resorts with no character (and a nasty little casino), then maybe you'd like this hotel. Granted, it wasn't totally done when we were there, but regardless this is a massive place. No one we talked to on either island can imagine how it will be able to survive with 900 rooms. It is nothing like the Four Seasons. It is like 5 stories high (the main building) with a ton of smaller buildings. There is this weird concrete courtyard directly behind the rear that leads you to the pool and then the beach. The beach is also on the Atlantic side so it is rough! I would NEVER stay here, you'd be much happier at the Four Seasons again. Or try one of the plantations, like Ottley's on SK or the recently redone Montpelier on Nevis.
Have fun!!
I was under the impression that the new Marriot was supposed to be on the calm caribbean beach. Is that not the case??

Besides being huge, how were the Marriott's rooms, pools, staff, service, restaurants, etc.? Any and all info would be helpful.

We were on St Kitts in November last year and drove by the Marriott. of course at that point it was still in the stages of completion but my first impression was 'what a huge structure"! This place was massive. And even though I generally like Marriott and am a member of their rewards program, I really was not moved by what I saw and no doubt, this would not be my first choice for accomodation in St Kitts. When in the islands, I generally prefer smaller, more intimate hotels - my two favourites on St Kitts being Ottleys and Ocean Terrace Inn. But more importantly, as they have only just opened, I would safely give them a good year to get over their "growing problems" before even considering them as an option.

frani,
I've been to both the JW and St. Kitts, and I would suggest the Cancun property if you are looking at using miles.
The JW is widely reknowned as being one of the top 2 or 3 hotels in Cancun.
I like St Kitts better than Cancun, but the new Marriott there is atrocious, as alluded to by earlier posters.
The locals are very pleased for the employment opportunities, but many ex-pats and locals as well view the actual structure as a monstrosity that overwhelms understated laid back St Kitts.
