With the exception of finding the air transportation to Nevis to be difficult, we loved everything about Nevis. So it always amazes me when someone finds anything disappointing about it. I'm glad you found some things to enjoy.
My advice to anyone considering a trip? Rent a Jeep (warning: roads are somewhat bumpy !!

Nevisian, I'm sorrier than I can say that you're experiencing Alzheimer's so close to home. It's got to be one of the most devastating experiences, both for the patient and the loved ones. I do think, however, that your situation has made you hypersensitive to the two postings on this thread. Most of us who love Nevis already knew the names of the Hermitage folks. Those of use who don't love Nevis (yet) probably didn't pause over the name when it was mentioned. Same thing with the OP's mentioning of the disease. Would it have been more discreet to mention that the family was dealing with medical issues? Certainly. But being specifically Alzheimer's versus leukemia vs schizophrenia vs. lupus and *knowing* that gives the reader a better understanding of what the Hermitage family is going through. Ask yourself if you'd be upset if the OP had mentioned cancer. Or a mental illness.

Other than cancer, is there any disease more ubiquitous than Alzheimer's? If all of us here don't have firsthand experience, surely we have a close friend who is. So in my opinion, we can be that much more sympathetic to someone else who is dealing with that.

MPKP,

Sorry to hear your stay at Hermitage did not meet your expectations. I get the feeling though that you enjoyed the food and views! My wife and I are planning a 2008 visit to Nevis and to Hermitage, as we have been there many times and totally enjoy the experience!

The operative word is expectations! We enjoy the 'laid back' Island environment and the fact that we have to initiate some of the island experience! As is if you want to walk , you walk. If you want drink you drink and if you need a ride, you call T.C. for the best cabby.

To Mr. and Mrs. L we wish you our regards and will see you soon!
