ANDREW
TO HELL WITH THE REST OF THESE JERKS. I WILL TELL YOU WHAT I KNOW. IN THE CLIFFS AREA YOU WILL NOT BE RIGHT ON THE FAMOUS 7 MILE BEACH. MOST OF THE CLIFF PLACES WILL HAVE DOCKS TO SWIM FROM BUT NO BEACH TO SPEAK OF, IT IS MAINLY ROCKS. YOU WILL BE CLOSE TO RICKS A FAMOUS BAR GOOD FOR DRINKS AND FOOD AND SUNSETS AND WATCHING OR EVEN DOING IT YOURSELF THE CLIFF DIVERS. YOU CAN GO SHOPPING AT THE CRAFT MARKET DOWN TOWN. YOU CAN SHOP AT TIMES SQUARE CENTER IN THE DUTY FREE SHOPS. YOU CAN HAVE YOUR HOTEL ARRANGE EXCURSIONS IF YOU WANT. YOU CAN SCUBA DIVE, YOU CAN SNORKEL. MY LIKES ARE THE PEOPLE MY DISLIKES ARE THE ONES TRYING TO SELL YOU STUFF, BUT JUST SAY NO. YOU WILL BE APPROACHED ABOUT BUYING GANJA BUT IF YOU DONT USE IT JUST SAY NO AND ALL IS COOL. NEGRIL IS COOL. GOOD BARS DOWN ALONG THE BEACH AREA TOO LIKE MARGARITAVILLE, BAR B BARN, ETC. HAVE FUN AND ENJOY

The upside of the cliffs is there are less crowds than the beach and you can snorkel right from your cliff...the reff is further off the beach so you have to take a boat.

Most of the cliff hotels offer more privacy than the beach hotels, and the vibe is a little funkier. I prefer the cliffs to the beach though we take our kids a lot so have to stay on the beach (cliffs are open and unfenced, not good for little kids).

negril is wonderful (i have spent a long time there), west end (cliff area) is nice, although of course you will have to travel a bit when you go to the beautiful beach. everything is very relaxed, do not expect quick service. do not only go to the famous rick's cafe, alfred's on the beach is much more fun.

there are wonderful excursions, one suggest is the mayfalls (not too far).

enjoy your stay!
