Need a gift idea for hostess

We are going to Aruba over Thanksgiving and will be staying with a business associate that we have never met. I would like to bring her something from the USA that she can't get in Aruba. I have heard they have great shopping there, so I am not sure if there is anything they don't have. I am in NYC. Don't know what size she is and don't want to ask, so,no clothing. Thanks in advance!

Ellen, I would suggest getting her a nice serving bowl or the like with fish on it. I got one not too long ago at Lechters and since they are going out of business they should have some great prices.

Macy's had something like it too as did Pier One, on 5th Ave. (I live in NYC too)

Have a great time and enjoy the sun.

tweedy

When we visit friends in other countries we try to bring something they can't get where they live. Depending on their likes and dislikes (unfortunately you don't have this info). A lot of times we bring them foods that are not available to them. How about some New York bagels in a nice basket??

Remember it's got to be packed! Not a problem but to take a dish, plate, food baskets, whatever, I would have it shipped when I bought it or when I returned home as a thankyou. How about a wonderful pashima or a wrap of some kind - from Bloomies? They are always great to have in the Carib.

What great ideas! Thank you very much. I love the food idea and the pashmina, so I will probably do both. Although the food may not make it down there if it is from Zabar.

Ellen, the BEST place for pashminas is on Canal St. Yes, they are real and well priced, I think I paid $40 for a very large navy blue. You can negotiate if you buy more than one. It's right on the corner on the SE at Canal and Lafayette (spelling?) lol. I have about 10 now in different colours.

Have a great trip.

tweedy
