Nassau/Cable Beach Safety?

We've been to Nassau and Cable Beach several times, as recently as 4 years ago. I've read that there is increased violence and robbery on the island. Are we at any more real risk, if we are sensible and stay generally in tourist areas with lots of people? I love this area and hope we will have our usual great time (traveling in Dec.). Thanks.

The tourist areas in Nassau/Cable Beach and Paradise Island are very safe. Downtown Nassau is well patroled, Cable Beach is secure, even at nite, and Paradise Island is lively with tourist even late at nite.
There has been an increase in crime over the past couple of years, but it's the same everywhere you go. Restaurants, tours and attractions geared toward the tourists are perfectly safe, and even the clubs have added security. The Hotel beaches are patroled at nite, but it's still a good idea NOT to walk anywhere deserted at nite.

In the Bahamas you have a high rime rate and drug related corruption. Even there you have one of the highest murder rate in the world. But you can feel save in hotel areas. But I might have heard a tourist was killed at Paradise Island about two years ago. Who knows the nationality?

I would ignore anything that Harald has to say,he collates any and all articles with negative overtones, some of his stuff is years old and he puts it together on his website and presents it as day to day happenings in The Bahamas. He has nothing constructive or informative to offer anybody. He is trying to conduct a personal vendetta against Bahamian authorities for his own reasons.
There is very little crime committed against tourists, yes the crime rate is a concern but for some reason Bahamians are the main targets of criminals in the Bahamas. As scubagirl infers be careful at night if you decide to leave tourist areas,as it is everywhere there are areas that you should avoid after dark.
