Mustique

Heading to Barbados and Mustique next month. Anything in the area we must see or do?

Thanks!

It won't take you long to see all there is to see in Mustique. I really liked Macaroni Beach and Obsidian Bay. The "town" is very small with a few high end shops and of course Basil's Bar. I guess that's a Must See. Having a dinner or drinks at the Firefly is also a Must Do.

Barbados will seem like a busy metropolis by comparison. I think that the East Coast is very scenic and there are some fantastic restaurants on the West and South coasts but I did find the island a bit bland. The Flower Forest is nice.

Be sure to do a day sail to the Tobago Cays while you are on Mustique. That would also be a Must Do.

Wandering Texan,

May I ask how are you getting from Barbados to Mustique?

We are flying Mustique Airways. Not too excited about it, an old Twin Otter plane.

Thanks Wandering Texan.I'm sure it will be a fun hop skip and a jump across to Mustique - even in an old "twin otter" plane.

Well, if there were some land along the way I would like it better. I have never flown in a small plane and the flight is over open water all the way, but I decided to go for it. The only other way I could figure out was to fly into St. Lucia, spend the night, and then fly to Canouan on American Eagle, and then you can get a boat to take you to Mustique. I would probably have done it that way, but the person in Mustique where I booked the villa told me to go to Barbados and use Mustique Air, so that is what I did. We have to overnight in Barbados each way. I have always wanted to see St. Lucia, and not that excited about Barbados, so if I were to do it again, I would go through St. Lucia. I just didn't want to start all over rearranging my trip because I am trying to plan a big trip for next year with my family. I will write a report when I get back.

Thanks for the encouragement. The prices for the villas on Mustique are reasonable compared to other islands... you just have to get there!

WT, the flight from BGI to the Grenadines is so much fun! You'll be too mesmerized counting the endless shades of blue in the water and watching the sailboats and guessing which island is which to be very scared of being on the plane. Just make sure you have a window seat.

Will you make it to Bequia on your trip? Or are you staying put on Mustique? Can you take a daytrip to the Tobago Cays?
