Most Luxurious Resort for around $750/night
$700-$800/night seems to be average for the type of resorts we like to go to. We have only frequented Anguilla & St. Barts & we are looking for a new Island & New gorgeous resort. We need beautiful Beaches, Luxurious accomodations (ie, we are not no-tv type of people-we need our CNN & marble bathrooms)and great food or restaurants....Please post ideas. Can't do the $1000/night type of places...but any other ideas in the $700-$800 range? (of course food & everything else will be extra) thanks!

A few suggestions for you...
Jumby Bay in Antigua
Sandy Lane or Coral Reef Club in Barbados
The Cotton House in Mustique
Parrott Cay in Turks and Caicos
4Seasons in Nevis or Punta Mita
Not sure about TV and marble baths...but the luxury you seek is available in all these places.
Another thought would be a villa of your own.
I think you mentioned, in another post, you'll be travelling with your year old child, so a villa could be the perfect answer.Enjoy the planning !

I concur with Marion. You could find some spectacular villas for that range, and live like a movie star with lots of room and privacy. Of course, you might have to eat out a lot or fix yourself a snack or two... but think of all the pluses.

Hi mm,
It's your good Yankee values getting in the way
!
The OP was clear about what makes a vacation special to her.
If she has the $$ and luxury makes her smile, who are we to judge...let alone be "sickened" ?
There are many people that are able and willing to spend that kind of money. If, not the industry couldn't charge those rates. Right ?
How about this New England weather ? Aren't we lucky these last few days
!

Hi MM ...... funny , I do not often see eye to eye with you , but on this we may have some common ground !!! On the other hand , the O.P. has every right to spend their own money as they see fit . ( it's none of my buisness ) Perhaps just leaving out the marble bathroom bit would have been more tactful . But Hey !!! I'm a stubborn , cheap , Scot. from a P.E.I. farming family !! Lol , each to their own , Faith .

Yeah, a bit judgemental.
Also a flinty Scot who's dad was born in Nova Scotia and who's grand-dad was born in Oban, Scotland. I also lived outside of Glasgow for two years. I guess the apple did not fall far.
I understand and agree that we can spend as we wish. I guess I viewed the post as being a bit of a "look at how rich I am" type thing. If you have that kind of money it seems to be that I'd deal with a high-end agent rather than make a public posting.
Hey joaniejd - have a fun and safe trip wherever you go.

I think everyone uses these forums for the same reason, irregardless of budget- to get great, mostly unbiased, first hand opinions. I'm using a travel agent for my next trip (to 4 seasons great exuma), but found the advice given here of wonderful value. I think the vast majority of travel agents are honest, but I've heard horror stories of agents recommending destinations on the incentives provided to them by the resorts, rather than their merits. The great thing about this forum is there's no hidden agenda- just honest opinions and pretty helpful advice.

Just my $.02...
I wasn't offended, because to me, travel in itself is a luxury, and there are as many different levels of cost as there are travelers.
Now was the post pretentious and nouveau riche? That's another story!
Generally, someone in a "certain" income category would simply ask for input on luxury properties and list amenities they are interested in.

Yea...that's almost 2 car payments for me and hubby.
For that kind of money a night..one could buy a vacation home if the money was saved for that purpose.
(this is what I hope to do oneday
)
Everyone has their own money to spend as they see fit.

Sandy Lane in Barbados is lovely. I was there a little less then 3 yrs ago for part of my honeymoon and I would go back in a heartbeat. I have been to many islands in the Caribbean and have been to Barbados twice. If you would like any other information don't hesitate to ask.

Just another perspective here.
When you speak about vacation prices, a lot depends on where you're coming from.
If you live in a metropolitan area on the East coast, New York or DC...or you're accustomed to California prices in LA or SF, the numbers quoted by the OP are fairly common just for daily life. Try buying a cup of coffee and a bagel in NYC (unless you know some hideaways) and you'll be in sticker shock.
For those of you lucky enough to live in the South or in the Midwest, it does seem like an excessive amount. But all things are relative to one's own marketplace.

I have visited many of the places noted and Four Seasons-Great Exuma is OUT for me. It is beauiful as is Punta Mita or Nevis but the food was terrible in 2003 and our last, forever in Dec.2004. A couple that went in May of this year said it was o'k at best and I believe they have good tastes. What that means to me is they may have changed someone in the kitchen but more moves, maybe the Exec. Chef and some food suppliers (they had done some of that they told me)but they have further to go for $800/day for 2 with MAP, tax and service.
Eating out is not really an option as late as our friends visit in May.
My votes are for Jumby Bay, Cap Julluca and Four Seasons Nevis then Punta Mita.
Hope some of this helps.
