Mosquito/Sand flea free islands

Last April we had a terrible experience with sand fleas and/or mosquitos in Barbados. So that got me wondering, which islands are best if you want to avoid these pests? Would love to hear your thoughts and experiences.
Thank you!

Did you use insect repellant, spray or lotion daily? Did the place you stayed faithfully spray the folliage nearby?

My thought is that it is not so much about which island, but the time of year (rainy season, etc.) and how you protect yourself. My experiences are mostly Mexico, with a little bit of Jamaica and Hawaii.

Thanks for your reply, Suze. We doused ourselves night and day in repellent! But I think you are on to something with the idea that the place we were staying did not spray. Going forward, that will be one of the questions I ask first!

A couple of hints: 1) Mosquitos, Sand Flies & No-See-Ums are more prevalent in areas of dense vegetation, after periods of heavy rains, when there are little or no breezes, in the hour or around dusk and sunrise and in areas on the beach where the legation meets the sand. Avoiding those areas at those times can lessen your chance of a "close encounter. 2) Refrain from using perfumes, colognes, after shaves, scented body splashes & hairsprays, etc. as the sweet smelling aromas act as an attractant.
