A bit of advice to everybody out there: PLEASE don't respond to Tim!! He is a very aggressive and obnoxious poster who keeps pushing Hawaii and St. Barts and goes crazy if anybody disagrees. Just ignore him and maybe he'll go away.

Actually Tim did a much better job this time in explaining why this island is not for him or others who want lush, things to explore etc. Hard to beat Bermuda, Kuai! None the less I adore Anguilla for what it is , and love its empty beaches and people. So-what is paradise for me is not for others! Expectations are everything too!

The title Ed put on his message suggests that it is someone else's fault that Anguilla didn't meet his expecations. He was "mislead." Baloney. Quit blaming other people for your own laziness. Even the most trivial research on Anguilla will tell you it is a dry, arid island with predominantly scrub vegetation. And practically all paths related to Anguilla on the Web lead to news.ai, Bob Green's excellent (and huge) site which is updated on a near-daily basis directly from the island. With our good friend the Internet to help us, there is simply no excuse for arriving at any destination without a pretty good understanding of what you will see and experience. Also, if you are spending thousands of dollars on a purchase, don't you typically LOOK at the thing you are buying? It's no different with a vacation. There are literally thousands of Anguilla photos on the Web. If you didn't look before you leapt, that's your problem, not Anguilla's.
jeb21,
I couldn't agree more! Anguilla is paradise found! Just look at this photo of Cap's units marching elbow-to-elbow down the beach, what could be more beautiful?

http://uweb.superlink.net/rwilmott/ang/jalucaboat.jpg

Cissy--Hawaii is fast-paced? Not outside Waikiki--been there six times--all vacations very relaxing and you're definitely on island time!

Actually, the buildings themselves look very CHEAP when looking back at them from the water--like papier mache!!
