Men in Thongs

Can men wear thong style swimsuits anywhere on the island of St. Thomas, Aruba, Dominica, Bonaire, or Grenada?

I've only seen men in thong bathing suits in Jamaica. It was not a pretty sight.

Less than 1% of the population should even be allowed to consider the thought of wearing such a device.

Banana hammocks are best worn in the privacy of one's home. I find them repulsive, even on a stud muffin!

If you want to go to an island were thongs on men are common, visit Orient Beach, St. Martin. By the way, not my style.

When in Mexico last December we were walking down the beach when a large (and I mean large) man stood up from his blanket and walked toward the water. He was proudly wearing an orange banana pouch string type thing and oh dear lord it was gross - huge belly, massive butt cheeks around the string and that orange pouch.

The horror!

Now what does cgalloway say? I must admit, I don't think I could drink enough to wear one, so embarrassing.

My guess is that the (majority) of us would rather NOT have to witness some dude sporting the "Grape Smugglers" while we are on vacation. Maybe it's more accepted in Europe, but it doesn't seem to fit in too well on most caribbean islands. Thanks, but no thanks on the hairy butt cracks!! ;-)

I think CG wanted to know if it was ok for men to wear thongs, and not what any member's particular prejudices might be. My experience is that while very unusual, it is certainly ok and you won't run afoul of any law or get into any trouble. I always wear a thong in the Caribbean, but I know we gals have an unfair advantage in this category; we can do most anything we want without the rash of juvenile comments men have to put up with.

So, go for it, CG. Be forewarned that you will probably experience rudeness, but I applaud your self confidence and courage. Anyone who is offended always has the right to NOT look, rather than complain (novel thought, I know).
