Meal Plans at the Atlantis?

We would appreciate hearing about people's experiences. It seems expensive to pay up front but I'm reading that restaurants are expensive. Also, if you have an idea of cost of buffet breakfast and dinner, please provide. Thanks

I personally, find the food expensive and not very good. I enjoy eating at Anthony's Bar and Grill, next to Comfort Suites. (Across from Beach Towers of Atlantis.) You get much better tasting food, more of it, for about 1/3 of the price.

We were going to eat breakfast at the buffet at the Cove, for 2 adults 1 child, was going to be close to $100!

Kids chicken nugget meals for lunch were around $12, breakfast at Royal Towers (not buffet) was more reasonable.

La Mesa, Bobby Flay;s restaurant, while expensive, was really good.

We also went across the bridge to The Poop Deck, and across to the marina which had Johnny Rockets and multiple other restaurants.

Actually my favorite is a 30 minute taxi ride to Compass Point, great restaurant!

I have stayed at the Atlantis both with and without the meal plan. We spent much LESS on food WITHOUT the plan! We are not big breakfast eaters, so we brought granola bars, etc. with us and had that for breakfast. We then had a nice lunch at the Atlantis. For dinner we ate either at the Atlantis or one of the other restaurants nearby.
What they don't mention about the meal plan is they add tax and gratuity based on the actual price of your meal so you wind up paying a lot more than just your upfront fee for the meal plan.
You can walk to the Hurricane Hole Shopping center down the street for a good inexpensive breakfast at the Newstand also.

We went with our family (a group of us). My immediate family did the gourmet meal plan. This includes all of the nicer restaurants at the atlantis. The breakfast buffet without the meal plan was very expensive. I know we ate a lot at breakfast and then held off until dinner. My kids had burgers by the pool. There is a pool area special on burgers.
My extended family did the regular meal plan which is all the buffet restaurants. We had dinner with them one night and the gourmet restaurants were much better. The buffet was great with kids as they could get up and get whatever they wanted when they wanted.
I liked having the meal plan. We are decent eaters and it included soup to nuts. We generally took our dessert to go and ate it later in the room. It does not include alcohol, but we drink lightly anyway.
I think if i had to look at the prices of the dinners/buffets, I would be much cheaper about eating while there. Because we pre signed up and were already committed, we just ate and enjoyed and didn't think about it. Also, if you do the gourmet, call ahead and make a reservation for each night. This way you are guaranteed dining in the places you want to eat in.

Another great way to save is to stay at Comfort Suites across the street. A continental breakfast is included, you have a frig in your room, and full use of Atlantis.

If you can afford the newer buildings of Atlantis, it's wonderful, but if you're in the older buildings(ex. beach tower) it's very old and not worth the money.

I do love Atlantis, but we always stay at Comfort Suites. You can walk across the street just as fast as waiting for an elevator in a high rise and trudging through acres of lobby.

Agree that beach tower is dated! We went a few years ago and stayed in the Royal towers. We had very nice rooms. My brother was trying to save money and stayed at the beach tower. He said it was like a motel 6 and he overlooked the parking lot. It was a long walk to the slides. He moved over to the royal towers on day 3 and said it was worth it to pay more money.
