Marriott-vs-Westin & May weather

I will be staying at the Marriott. Is the Marriott not a very good hotel, or is it just that the Westin is GREAT?
Also, when it rains in GC, does it rain for hours at a time, or just spurts?
Thanks for your help.
Let me rewind my recorder here...yes, the Westin is a much better resort in ALL aspects- beach, rooms, amenities, restaurants, and the hotel itself. The Marriott was not originally a Marriott anyway- Marriott kind of just decided it wanted to be in GC. I mean, who builds a hotel that is right on the beach, but then designs the hotel so that the majority of the rooms can't even see the beach at all? Its just a strange design in my opinion. The Westin faces the beach and Ocean. One entire side of the hotel overlooks the Ocean, with the ends of the hotel (probably only 6 rooms) having partial views (these are the best buys). The other side of the hotel have "island views"- meaning the parking lot and the shopping center across the street. I could over look alot of things at the Marriot, but just the feeling of the hotel is an "enclosed" feeling with a courtyard type lobby that most of the rooms open onto. Then of course there's the beach- "narrow" is the only way to describe it.

I just wanted to make something I wrote earlier a little more clear. When I said there were 6 Westin end "partial ocean view" rooms, what I meant was- approximately 6 rooms per floor, per end (it has 5 or 6 floors I think). There may be a few more than the 6 rooms.

Sorry, but one more thing- the partial ocean view rooms are the better buys ONLY if you can get a room on the top two floors. Even the Ocean view rooms on the bottom two floors have poor views, unless your on the ends of the hotel or near the beach. Too much info right? I'll shut up now.

We stayed at the Marriott Grand Cayman Islands in January and the above comments are certainly true. Most of the rooms at the Marriott do not face the water at all. Our room, on the first floor, faced the center couryard which had a fountain and palm trees. I believe the hotel was built as a Ramada Inn. Marriott just renovated it and took over the management. The bottom line is if you are paying for the hotel room, stay at the Westin. We stayed free based on Marriott points. Anytime you stay at a resort property free, you usually don't get an ocean front room. On a more positive note, this is a Marriott Hotel with Marriott quality people and services. The pool and ocean were just a short walk from our room and we had a great time here. The Weston is where I would stay if I was paying for it. If there is any rain in May it is only for a short time. Have a great time.
B.

Hello there,
The westin has the nicest beach but the Hyatt is a much better hotel in quality.
Ofcourse they are both quite expensive, why not opt for a condo on the beach........
if you need info on those email me.
It rains about an hour a day almost everyday but not necessarily,,,,the weather is really strange lately and not very predictable, you might get lucky and get no rain at all or else.........
good luck.
