Marriott, Breezes or Hilton???

In order to skip the "maybe hurricane, maybe not" game, we're looking at Curacao for our 15th anniversary in September. We liked the Marriott Aruba, but are open to spending a little less this year. Have heard good AND not so good about both the Hilton & Breezes. Anyone with current knowledge of either? Or both?!

Also, do the hotels have shuttles to Willemstad, or is it necessary to have a car? I already saw that taxis are kind of expensive...maybe there are alternatives??

I appreciate any info...we probably need to book this week!

We were at Curacao a couple years ago and stayed at the Marriott. It is a nice hotel, nice pool and I loved their restaurant Portofino. We went for lunch one day to the Hilton. The hotel seemed ok but totally deserted. There was no one at the pool or in their restaurant. The food took FOREVER to come at the Hilton. Which was kinda strange since there was nobody else there. The pool area looked decent. The Marriott is definately much nicer but the Hilton looked okay. I would consider staying at the hilton if there is a huge price difference between the marriott and the hilton. Hope this helps.

You might want to check the trip reports for all three on www.tripadvisor.com - In the entry field type Curacao lodging and you'll get a menu listing just about every lodging on the island.

We're headed to Curacao in about 2 1/2 weeks and are staying at the Marriott.

It seems to be the predominant choice of posters both here and on tripadvisor and although more expensive than most it appears to be the best all-around choice. Hint: go to marriott.com and check it out - you'll find a variety of rates from "Room Only" to "Room + Breakfast" and "All Inclusive."

BTW, I believe the Hilton has a similar (albeit less expensive) pricing structure. As far as Breezes is concerned, my research (consisting of others' trip reports) makes me wary of the place.

Whoops - missed this first time around.

Marriott has a shuttle 2X a day, morning with a midday return and midday with an afternoon return (free, but limited and not available for evening jaunts into Willemstad.)

Marriott has a National Car desk in the lobby. What we're planning to do is cab it from the airport to the hotel (about $15-20 we understand), and play it by ear from that point on (renting as needed since we'll spend some days exploring and others chilling out at the hotel).

BTW, here's the email address of the hotel - we sent them a query and they responded very quickly -

I also recommend the Marriott. We were there in November and thought the resort was beautiful. We split our time between there and the Kura Hulanda which was also very nice. The Kura was walkable to the shopping district and the Marriott offers a shuttle 2x's per day.
