malliouhana-Anguilla?

I am planning a honeymoon for July and I am looking at Cap Julaca and Malliouhana on Anguilla. Apparently, Cap Juluca was badly damaged but Malliouhana made out much better. Any comments comparing the two?

We went to Malliouhana on our honeymoon and returned the following two summers. We have also stayed at Cap Julaca.

No doubt, Malliouhana is our first choice - by far. Why? First, it is a better value. At approx. $410 per night MAP (the per night price offered under one of their summer packages), it is cheaper than Cap Juluca. Moreover, the food at Malliouhana was so far superior to Cap Julaca that one shouldn't even speak of the two in the same breath. The restaurant at Malliouhana is managed by Michel Rostang, a restauranteur from France. The food is the best we've ever had in the Caribbean and compares favorably to some of the finest meals we've had in Europe.

The rooms, even the standard doubles, are spacious and enjoy fine views of the beach. The room we had, 205, has a particularly wonderful view.

Finally, we found the staff to be, though perhaps reserved, extremely accommodating.

Cap Julaca, on the other hand, was physically atractive but in other respects disappointing. We asked (prior to booking) if their upscale restaurant (Pimms) would be open after suffering damage in the hurricane of 1995. They assured us it would be. When we arrived, it was not open and our only option was eating at what was essentially a beach bar. A letter of complaint remains unanswered to this day.

Malliouhana really has it all: it is wonderfully romantic, has exceptional (and largely unoccupied) beaches, one of the largest wine cellars in the Caribbean, and a very high guest/staff ratio.

Good luck in your planning and do not hesitate to contact me directly should you have any questions.

I could not agree with Robert more. Malliouhana far surpasses Cap Juluca as I have experience both.

Brian,

According to Bob Green's Anguilla Newsletter, Cap Julaca will be closed at least until 7/1/00...have not stayed at either property. I know Bob has a website...you may be interested in reading as he is Anguilla resident and only 'reports'...is not a travel agent.
