Looking for great resort for summer

Hoping for some suggestions for a resort in late July early August (I know this is hurricane season, we have been lucky so far as we always go to the Caribbean in late July, early August). For the past 4 years we have traveled to Nevis and stayed at both the Four Seasons and Nisbet. We love the island and found the food at both resorts great. We prefer the quiet and hospitality of Nisbet, but because of the Four Seasons currently being closed we are finding it extremely difficult to get back to Nevis and would like to try something new.

Our main priorities are: great beach, great food, and easy access from Boston. We HATE large resorts, but also need to be somewhat economical. We will be traveling with our two teenagers, but they do not need other kids, activities, tvs, ect. to be happy. Great beach and great food are really the top priority. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I'll assume that since you've stayed at Four seasons and Nisbet while on nevis your comment about needing someplace that is "somewhat economical" means you consider resorts/hotels in that price range to be OK for your budget.

If so check out Cap Jaluca on Anguilla. It's an upscale property on a fantastic 1/2 mile+ white sand beach. Just in case you tire of thar beach the island boasts 35 other terrific beaches and over 80 restaurants.

Also look at Little Dix Bay on Virgin Gorda. This island is topographically similar to Nevis (although the mountain is not as tall), somewhat lush (agaion not as much as Nevis), it has some very nice golden sand beaches, good to very good snorkeling and like Nevios, lacks crowds. There are a variety of very good restaurants on the island.

If you are truely "foodies" consider going to St. Barth's. This French island is considered by many to be the gourmet dining capital of the world with well over 100 places to choose from. The island offers plenty of watersports that will interest your teenagers. One word of caution, like Nevis it is not easy to get to. The Eden Roc Resort, Le Toiny and Isle de France (boutique hotel) may meet your accomodation expectations.

You might also look at Carlise Bay, Curtain Bluff or Galley Bay resorts on Antigua. All will provide the upscale accomodations you are used to and the island has 365 beaches to keep you and your family busy.

Thanks for the suggestions. Cap Jaluca, Little Dix Bay, Carlise Bay and Galley Bay - are all way out of our budget. Four Seasons in Nevis is only 325/night in summer, and Nisbet is a bit more but includes breakfast/dinner. Unless I am missing something the hotels above are no where near this price range. Curtain Bluff seems somewhat promising though, I will do some research on that resort. Again, thanks for your input.

Little Dix has a deal this summer that would make it within your budget, and includes breakfast. Take a look at their website, and also, Caneel Bay.

We are going to Bermuda in June and staying at the Fairmont's southampton princess hotel for 129 per night. We got in on a deal they were running, but if you check some dates, maybe they are still running some deals. The food in Bermuda is excellent, but pricey. Bermuda is a beautiful island with lots of things to do. The hotel is large, but I am sure you could find your solitude.
Bermuda is one of our favorite places to go.

How about one of the condo resorts on Grace Bay Beach, Turks & Caicos? Incredible beach and wonderful restaurants and since almost all the resorts are condos, very convenient for a family of four. The Sands, Royal West Indies, Ocean Club West all get nice reviews. For a step up in elegance, there are many new resorts (but pricier) such as Somerset, the Palms, etc.
P.S. I love Nisbet and Nevis! Nisbet and Galley Bay are my two all-time favorites. GB not as pricey as it looks as they are having incredible sales (I think almost 50% off) but since it is adults-only not sure if your teenagers would be welcome, depends on their ages I guess. Frankly, I don't think it's a place for 13-15 year olds but 16-18 maybe. And the other challenge would be you would probably need two rooms and have to pay for them like four adults so it would be expensive. But definitely go as a couple some time it is a wonderful place!

None of the resorts on Anguilla are huge and that island is known for its food and beaches. I'm in Boston as well and we recently returned from a week on St. Martin (Radisson) and then a week on Anguilla (Cap Juluca). I believe Jet Blue offers Saturday only direct service to Anguilla from Boston. Since we were staying on St. Martin first we flew into SXM and then took the public ferry over to Anguilla. It's quite easy. Cuisinart might be having summer sales and if that is still too pricey you can look into Ku or perhaps one of the small condo resorts on Meads Bay.

Turks & Caicos is almost exclusively condo resorts and Grace Bay Beach is one of the most stunning beaches anywhere. I feel certain you could find something acceptable there and it's an easy trip from Boston with one change of plane.

You've been given lots of good suggestions.

My advice is to first choose your island, then find accomodations that fit your budget rather than the other way around. The one thing I've learned after more than 25 years of travel in the Caribbean is that you can find accomodations on any island in almost all price ranges.

Your original post mentions only 2 upscale resorts on Nevis but not actual budget numbers. Your "second" post indicated $325 per night was an acceptable number. If that's true you should have no difficulty finding rooms on almost any island during the summer months. While the accomodations you find at that rate may not be in a 5-star resort they won't be shabby either.

By the way, Four Seasons on Nevis is currently closed and won't be open this summer at all so you won't find rooms there at $325/night.

Good luch chosing your vaction spot.

For beautiful beaches and great food, Anguilla is the island for you. For travel with 2 kids I'd recommend looking at Ku on Shoal Bay East, which has been recently renovated and offers kitchen facilities in the rooms (always great when traveling with perpetually hungry teens so you can keep snacks on hand). Or try looking at Carimar or Turtles Nest on Meads Bay. Shoal Bay Villas is a venerable place, also on Shoal Bay East.

Anguilla gets surpassingly more raves for food than anyplace else in the Caribbean, including even. St. Barths. And this summer many of the islands' restaurants are offering $35-45 3-course prix fixe meals. Most hotels and villas are offering really good values right now. We're going to be going to Anguilla for the first time and staying at Carimar next month--we got a pay 5 nights, stay for 7 deal and were quite happy with the rate.

Thanks for all the great suggestions, I will definately look into them. I guess the major issue is that we always get two rooms, so that is where it can get expensive. Appreciate all the input.

If you dare go to Mexico, my good friend went over spring break (no swine flu for them) to playa del carmen area. They stayed at the Iberostar resort and had two rooms (the maya resort). She said the rooms were large enough to all have slept in one room, but they like their space. It is all inclusive and they said the food was good (and they are picky people). The resort had lots to do and a teen disco. Their daugthers were 14 and 16 when they went. You might want to check it out!
