Thank you for all your responses! However, as I read them I am more confused than ever! It seems as though in order to receive the "true caribbean" feeling you must sacrifice quality of service or convenience. I guess that should be expected, however. Thanks especially to Joan and Dave who really gave me an objective view! The thing that really scares me, however, is that it seems almost that the beach is unswimmable on LBBR. I could except almost anything but that!

I can see why you are confused. And posts by people who have a vested interest or business on certain islands do tend to be non-objective. The beach at Long Bay is lovely. Most months there is a small area that is swimmable down at the end of the beach. There are times that the water is calm but the outcropping of rocks and coral are always there. In the winter months the water can be very rough there. If swimming is important to you and you want it at your resort, Long Bay may not be the place for you!

This is quite an unusual string considering that it's the BVI board! It is an odd thing that LBBR so polarizes those that have been there. I've seen it any number of times but never stayed there as I am satisfied with another resort a few miles away. Always seemed quite nice to my eyes.

Regarding Tortola itself... great place and wonderful people. DEFINITELY not St. Thomas which I escaped from back in 88 never to return except for day trips to buy jewelry. I was myself a crime victim there and it was a close call.

Cheers!

hi Jen
I was wondering if you made a decision. I am so confused after hearing good and bad about Long Bay. I think I'm decided on a hotel and then I hear a bad thing. Let me know what you decide.

we were married on st. thomas and honeymooned at long bay for 2 weeks. It was great!!!We were upgraded to a villa and the view was spectacular!Very romantic! Also lots of opportunity to venture out to other islands for the day. We loved it. Nothing like fallinf asleep to the sound of the ocean waves and having morining coffee on our huge balcony enjoying the beautiful view. You must try the Sugar Mill hotel restaurant. Best food of my life and most romantic atmosphere. Hope this helps. Enjoy!!
Jen
bbbb
