long bay beach resort

My husband, 19 yr. old daughter and I were thinking of staying here. When I spoke to a rep at their main phone #, she said she had stayed there for 3 days in February, and could not swim in the water at all...too rough she said. Will this still be the case in July? Has anyone been there recently? Thanks!

I've always found the beach there, while pretty to look at, kinda rough.
Better swimming at Cane Garden Bay.
(and on excursions to Jost Van Dyke, and Virgin Gorda)

While it should be better in July (it was still pretty blowy in February), it's still not a really calm swimming beach. However, Smuggler's Cove is a short cab/car ride away, and that's a wonderfully calm beach for swimming. Cane Garden Bay is okay for swimming (a lot of boats there, so I usually don't swim there) and Brewer's Bay is also good for swimming and snorkeling. Both are slightly longer rides away from Long Bay. And as Blamona said, a day trip to Jost van Dyke and you'll want to stay in the water at White Bay forever!

I think it will still be pretty rough in July. It's a gorgeous beach for walking and sunning though. Go to Smugglers Cove -- that will be very nice. All of the beaches on Tortola have a bit of a swell anyway.

Just about everything on the north shore of Tortola is a crap shoot in winter. The winter swells can be nasty.

In summer, it's just the opposite. Long Bay should be very nice. Not smooth, but very swimmable.

Smuggler's and Brewer's will be better.
