Leaving for Curacao in a few days, last minutes tips???
Hi we are leaving for Curacao in a few days, staying at the Marriott. If anyone had any last minutes tips and/or if anyone knew what the common dinner dress code is, such as should my husband bring a sportscoat??? I know it depends on where we go for dinner, but for the most part, at a fine dining etablishment, what is the common dress for men in Curacao? I am assuming I could have a little silk sundress on and that would be appropriate for me. Thanks in advance! T.

It's been three years since we have visited Curacao but I know my husband did not take a sports coat. We ate at Fort Nassau (which I do not recommend but I guess is among the fancier restaurants on the island) and at the steak house in the Marriott (very good!) and linen slacks with an aloha-style or polo shirt were fine. The Marriott is very nice - I think you will really like it! We also really enjoyed a little restaurant called Hook's Hut which you can walk to from the Marriott. You eat right on the sand. Casual but romantic and they have a great happy hour. Have a great time!

Thanks Alex, I appreciate your reply. I have heard so many good things about the Marriott. My only worry is about the air quality (of which I did not hear about until after we booked the trip, of course.) Did you find the oil refineries affected the air quality when you were there? I don't even know why I am asking, it's not like we are going to cancel the trip, I guess to just ease my concern. Thanks for the restaurant tips and attire suggestions. I am glad you had a good time on your trip.
Happy travels, T.

I had heard about that prior to our trip too but frankly, I did not notice any oil smell or poor air quality. From what I remember, the Marriott is not that close to where the oil refineries are (it's a good 15 minute cab ride into Willemstad). I don't even think we really noticed anything while in Willemstad (although I guess that could change depending on weather, winds, etc). Maybe I am just oblivious : )

Here's a link to my review of the Marriott on epinions.com if you are at all interested.

Hey Tiff-
The wife and I are going to Curacao and staying at the Marriott in a couple of months.
Did some research before booking there and did so after noting the good travelers' reviews (including Alex's on epinions) it received.
Anyway, if you'd like to peruse a few dozen more (including some posted very recently), check out tripadvisor.com, URL
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...d_Curacao.html
PS - Our trip will be our first to a Marriott subsequent to my attaining Platinum Level membership in their frequent guest program.
It will be interesting to see what perks (if any) I receive.
(Anyone had any prior experience with this at a Marriott property?)
