Just got back from Cayman .. fresh report

Just returned from a five day stay in Grand Cayman. Got a report for those that are interested.

Accomodations - we stayed at the Sunshine Suites and were VERY pleased. The location is at the best section of 7 mi beach (we walked almost all of it). You share the beach with the Westin. Very wide with lots of room. Not rocky. Its about 200 yards from the hotel to the beach.. easy walk. Rooms were new & bright. Kitchens saved a fortune on breakfast & some lunches. They have beach chairs & towels to use of the beach for free. I used upgrade certificates from someone else to get a better room. I've got a few to pass on to the next person if you are planning on going.

Car rental - we used Andy's. No complaints, very reasonable. I would definitely reccomend getting a car. Makes exploring a lot easier.

Activities - horseback riding w/pampered ponies was great, stingray city is a must, dive if you are certified. Watertoy rentals at Westin were very convenient.

Restaurants - Cassanova's downtown, Italian, excellent, very small & homey. Pappagallo, expensive, but romantic.

Post a reply or email me if you want more info. Have fun, we sure did !!

Gordon, did you happen to notice where the new Ritz is being developed, and is it near the Westin, AND, were you able to see how the beach was in front? Thanks!
Just wondering - we're staying at Westin in April and are paying a small fortune to stay there again. Are you saying you used the Westin's beach chairs and towel hut or does Sunshine Suites have their own concession set up on beach? Glad you had a great time!

I just came back from the Grand Caymanian Resort (5 star) in Grand Cayman and loved it! If you are considering the Caribbean for Travel, this is the place to stay! Some amenities are Kitchen, Washer/Dryer, Pool, Beach, Dock, Dive Shop, Restaurant, Free Shuttle, plus more… I actually am willing to talk to you regarding this resort and can offer availability at a discounted rate ($800-$2000/week). Debbie, the Ritz is being constructed directly next to the Villas on the Galleon (to the South). The Westin is directly to the North of Villas. The beach is EXCELLENT in front of all three.

They were working on the site, but as a guy from a construction background, it only looked like a token crew to show people they were working on it. They were pouring foundations.

Tina, no Sunshine Suites has their own chairs, little short ones where you sit low to the ground. You carry them over from the hotel. The Westins are those big lounge jobbers and stay on the beach. As far as other stuff though, bar, beach toy rentals, etc., yes anybody can use the Westin. Don't worry, the Westin is a beautiful facility and I'm sure you'll love it. My wife and I just don't spend lots of time in the room so we choose to save money on the room and splurge on other stuff. Have a great trip.

Jeff, I saw Grand Caymanian. I ran over to it each morning from Sunshine Suites (good running area for those interested). It may be a wonderful facility, but those who have never been need to know it is waterfront on the backside of the island, not on the SMB side. Glad you had a good stay too!

We will be honeymooning in early April on Grand Cayman. Any suggestions for activities or restaurants would be greatly appreciated. We are not certified divers, but like to snorkel.

Gordon,
Glad to see your note! My husband and I are just starting our plans for a trip to the Caymans in May...neither of us have been before. He is a diver, I'm not. Does Sunshine Suites have diving? Any recommendations on restaurants, other activities? Thanks!
Kathleen

Gordon,
Thank you for your info on places to eat and car rental. Celebrating 20th year anniversary on Grand Cayman, Rum Point. First trip there, usually in Hawaii...we are so looking forward to a change and sounds like this will be a wonderful trip for us.

Thanks again,
