Island Music Choices

You are heading to your favorite island for a two week respite from the hectic daily lives many of us live. You can bring 5 and only five CD’s with you. What would your 5 CD’s be? Here are my five:
Bob Marley – Kaya
Kenny Chesney – Be As You Are
Jimmy Buffett – Floridays
Peter Tosh – Best Of
Steely Dan – Aja

Damian Marley - "Welcome to Jamrock"

Current year's Trini Carnival mas band and monarch compilation of finalists/winners

2+ Bootleg CD's of the "latest and greatest" dancehall tunes bought from street vendor on last trip 6 mos. prior - these are the best.

Maybe 1 or 2 of the following:

Most recent "Reggae Gold" compilation CD

Most recent "Soca Gold" compilation CD

5 of my home made CDs which contain a little of everything. My taste in music is very eclectic so much to difficult to narrow down to specific artists. The mix would include Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Sam Cooke, Kenny Chesney, George Benson, Lee Ritenour, Doors, Steely Dan, some Pittsburgh oldies, Enya, Beatles and Stones, Henry Mancini. The list goes on but you get the idea.

I'd bring:
Toots & the Maytals--Funky Kingston
U2 -- Rattle & Hum
LA Guitar Quartet -- LAGQ
Kronos Quartet -- Pieces of Africa
Toumani Diabate -- anything

In fact, those were the CDs I brought with me on my last trip. And it was the last 3 on the list that we listened to the most. Come cocktail hour (and especially if we've had to endure Marley, Buffett and/or Chesney all day--we like these performers and listen to them at home, but we don't want to hear them piped in all day) we like something a bit more relaxing or introspective.

Orchestra Baobab - "Bamba"
Cesaria Evora - "Cabo Verde"
Talking Heads - "Remain in Light"
David Bowie - "Aladdin Sane"
John Coltrane - "Blue Train"

1- Kenny Chesney's "Be As You Are"
2- Bob Marley- Legends
3- Jimmy Buffet-Greatest Hits
4- Enya (any of hers)
5- Windham Hill collection- I would just chose one of them to include George Winston

BTW...Just went to the Kenny Chesney concert last night. It was basically just like last year...which was a little disappointing because I expected more of his latest songs along with some of the songs from "Be As You Are".(which he did not play ANY of.

I am also going to the show tonight!I hope that he will include one song..atleast "Old Blue Chair".

I'd also break the rules and smuggle 5 more in/rarely are 5 CDs enough for 2 weeks:

Jorane -- The here and the now
Tsotsi -- the movie score
Gotan Project -- Lunatico
Giori -- Giori
Goldfrapp -- Felt Mountain
